The lovely New England village of Temple nestles on the flank of Temple Mountain. I love its friendly, old-fashioned rural character, unaltered in my five decades of residence. We have a good library and an old-time family store, and our historical society offers a variety of stimulating events.

Fine restaurants abound in the area.

I'm a freelance editor of trade and scholarly books. Not surprisingly, I'm a passionate reader, and have an extensive eclectic library for browsing. I travel whenever I can-- especially in Europe and Africa. (The photo shows me drinking bush tea on a chilly Botswana morning.) I love languages, and speak good French and fair German. One of my great pleasures while traveling is bird watching, enjoying the world's astounding variety of species and studying their behavior. Another is eating! Don't tell my French friends, but I think IMediterranean cooking is the best in the world. Speaking of cooking ~ How about fresh orange juice and seasonal fruits, followed by eggs laid yesterday by free-range chickens. With bacon or with sausage? Fragrant, tasty bakery breadstuffs with organic homemade jams and jellies always make a hit -- as do Kaiserschmarrn, German apple pancake, Savory Baked Omelette. Let me know of any special dietary preferences, guests at Auk’s Nest get just what they want. My wire-haired dachshund, Lola, loves canine and human company alike. She's a grand companions on the trail or for reading by the fire or snowshoeing in the fields and forest behind Auk's Nest. A word about Bed & Breakfast rates: Why are they higher than those of private rooms? B&B hosts are seasoned professionals, steeped in the nuances of inn keeping.
