We have 6 beds, a bathroom, and a small kitchen and dining area in a cozy, comfortable space. Reserve 1-6 beds here. See "Cabbin" at Mountain Home B&B to rent whole cabin.

The “Cabbin" is a renovated historic building that was once a cabin, but is now a small brick building (with the logs still inside the walls). In the spirit of Appalachian Trail (AT) hiking, most people rent individual beds for a night or two at $28/person/night. We've hiked the trail and know to provide hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, a shaver, Q-tips, linens, hair dryer, laundry, shampoo, soap, ride into town, breakfast, etc. Walk-ins are welcome, but it's always best to call or e-mail ahead so that we can coordinate.

With a paid deposit, you can rent the whole "Cabbin" for $155/night – look for this as a separate listing on AirBnB.

The 2nd floor has 4 twin beds and a small, full bathroom. Downstairs is a small kitchen and dining area and a space with 2 futon beds and a small library. The space is air conditioned (or heated, depending upon the season).

For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" (and before and "in progress" pictures of the main house) look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal. Starting in about 2018, we will operate a full B&B from the main house, as well.

Guests can hike in from the Appalachian Trail, just north of Shenandoah National Park, or drive in and park for free. We also provide a shuttle into Front Royal for lunch/dinner, post office, resupply, etc. You can leave a car and shuttle to a hiking spot ("slack pack") for a small fee.

We are resident at Mountain Home every night we are open for guests. We greet our guests when they arrive, answer any questions they may have, provide hiking and local activity suggestions, shuttle them to and from town with suggestions on where to eat/shop/find necessary services, and serve a continental breakfast in the morning. We might even provide s'mores around a small outside fire pit on a given night :-). But if guests just want downtime to rest, read or recharge, that is fine, too. We have a small library for guests as well.

I love being close to the Appalachian Trail and an easy walk in either direction. We are rehabilitating the 1847 historic Greek Revival Style farmhouse on the property into a full B&B. There are 5 other buildings on the property including a chicken coop and sheep shed which we are also going to repair and restore. We are happy to provide tours. The property is on the National and Virginia historic registers as "Mountain Home".

We provide a shuttle into and out of town. Once in town, there is the Trolley service. Many restaurants, services and the visitor center are all walking distance from historic Main and Chester streets. We have parking for those with vehicles. If you are coming to or from the DC area, contact us about shuttling on Mondays, Thursdays or weekends. We can also refer you to other shuttlers.

We can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Wineries and fine dining are just down the road and down the trail. Additional information is in the ATC “Appalachian Trail Thru-hiker's Companion" and AWOL's “The AT Guide".

Regole della casa

We can't have smoking in the Cabbin. If you have a dog, contact us about housing him/her. The Cabbin is not a big place, so we generally take only 1 dog per night, and we have a few dog-related rules to make sure everyone's stay goes smoothly. There is an additional $5/night fee for dogs, which we collect from you during your stay.

The location to the Appalachian trail, Shenandoah and Front Royal is unbeatable. Scott and Lisa are tremendous hosts who are respectful of "my space" but are also very warm and welcoming with their black lab and conversation; exceeding expectations for the "bed and breakfast". I wanted to stay multiple nights!

Lisa and Scott were very welcoming hosts during our short one-night stay with them in Front Royal, VA. While they were not present when we first arrived, there was a white board with their contact and other important information. The home was very well maintained and we could tell they really cared for our overall comfort. Our beds, the kitchen and the bathroom were clean and properly cared for, too. To our surprise, they also had a well-stocked tea drawer. The bookshelves were full of interesting reads, especially of books about the Appalachian Trail. We were happily surprised when Lisa and Scott offered to arrive at the home at 5:30 am to cook us breakfast as we had 10Ks and half-marathons to run the morning we would check-out. They went above and beyond that morning to make sure we were well fed and ready for the race. Cuddles from their sweet dog, Laurel, made the experience even more memorable. Honestly, we wish we would have stayed longer as they offered us a tour of the main house in the property that they are remodeling. We felt so lucky to have met them and we wish them all the best and would like to visit once their main house is ready for guests. Nagisa, Li and Bianca

Lisa and Scott are great hosts, welcoming and friendly as you'd expect from fellow trail-lovers. Their property is steps away from the Appalachian Trail. The Cabbin is operated like a hostel where you'd be sharing the sleeping quarter with other guests but with the service of a bed-and-breakfast!

Stopped for one night but could have stayed longer. The place is really nice and a perfect location for Shenandoah and/or the AT. Scott's hospitality and advice were amazing and he was great for a chat. Awesome breakfast too!

Unfortunately I had an emergency on my motorcycle and couldn't make it there for the night. Lisa and Scott were understanding and communicated well.

After Scott completed his AT thru-hike in 2012, we decided it would be really cool to support hikers at our own place on the Appalachian Trail. Transforming an 1847 farm house into a viable B&B has its challenges, but with faith, hope and persistence, we truly think anything is possible.
