This quaint room sits on the street side of a tree lined street, where natural light filters in throughout most of the day. We are on the top (3rd floor, walk-up) of a lovely, family-owned brownstone which is located conveniently near numerous train lines (2,3,4,5,A,C, or Shuttle to the B,Q) - a short 20 minute commute to Manhattan.
I have enjoyed our vibrant, lively and fun neighborhood for more than 6 years. On the block you can find unique coffee & tea shops with wireless internet, fresh baked goods, friendly bodegas, a couple of bars and EXCELLENT food (Thai, Mexican, Chinese, etc.) and a laundromat on the corner. Just a couple blocks further in either direction you can find almost anything else: Japanese, Italian, Caribbean, West African, fresh juices, shopping, hair shops, fresh produce & grocery stores and so much more.
I am a lovely 10 minute walk from the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Library, gorgeous Prospect Park, weekend farmer's market, and some great shops and local businesses.
Wireless internet and window fan available upon request.
I am known for being hospitable and also for being rather busy. While I work from home part-time in my room/home office, I also tend to keep rather random hours and travel frequently. Do not confuse this with being anti-social, it is only due to a large work load and full lifestyle :)

Rachael is super welcoming and friendly. Everything in the whole apartment is clean and neat (including kitchen and restroom). This bedroom is pretty much as same as the pictures show. The house is in a quiet neighborhood. One particular thing that I liked was the proximity to subway station (3 blocks away). It is very convenient to go anywhere by 2,3,4,5 trains. In addition, there is a shuttle line one block away to which you can connect to A/C trains. Overall, I couldn't recommend staying in Rachael’s house more highly.
I really loved to stay at Rachael’s place. She is really kind, friendly. She helped me a lot, showing me directions, how things work in the United States, etc. The neighborhood is very nice, there a lot of cafes, etc. I relly loved to stay with her =)
I spent four weeks with Rachael and it was a great experience. Rachael loves hosting people and as her guest you can feel that. She was not only very helpful and easygoing with everything but she gave me an insight into her life also. Her energy and her laughter are catching. The apartment is nicely designed, the room is cosy and the bed is comfortable. Crown Heights is an interesting neighborhood but Rachael's place is as well close to Prospect Park, Prospect Heights and Park Slope. So there is a lot to see and explore within walking distance. Franklin Avenue, just around the corner is full of restaurants, cafés and delis and the subway brings you to Manhattan quite fast.
I was sad to leave and highly recommend staying with Rachael.
Rachael is lovely, her home is impeccably clean & welcoming & comfortable, and her neighborhood is friendly and warm.
Cannot recommend Rachael or her home highly enough!
Rachael is quite the consummate host, cheerful and welcoming to her guests and delightful to converse with as well. My schedule during my stay was rather hectic and involved many the late night/morn, but getting to the apt via public transport was simple and the room worked well for day or night sleeping. I could not have asked for a more excellent experience.
I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Rachael's place. As soon as I arrived, exhausted after a crazy long trip to get there, I felt SO comfortable & welcome. Her home is bright, spacious and airy (loved the original wood floors) & feels just like cosy home. It's in a fantastic location for getting around, as others have noted; near the subway as well as a couple of bus lines. It's also a nice quiet street; I slept like a baby. :) I loved Franklin Ave, just around the corner. It's jam packed with great cafes (I recommend Little Zelda for coffee), bars / restaurants and cute shops plus laundromats and a little supermarket near the Franklin Ave subway. Rachael is just wonderful - super friendly, helpful, generous & easy going. Next time I'm in town, I'll be staying here again for sure. Thank you, Rachael! Come visit Australia!
My stay with Rachael and Jen was great! The apartment is clean, cosy and homely. Rachael and Jen are really friendly, funny and positive and both were happy to help with directions and what's good nearby. As a young, single 20-something female, I felt really safe walking around Franklin Avenue into the evening. The 2,3,4,5 trains are only a few minutes away, as are lovely organic grocery stores, dry cleaners, laundromats and possibly the best Thai restaurant and pizza place in Brooklyn. The room has a super fun chalk wall - great for keeping checklists! The bed is comfy and there is a decent amount of space for storage. I would definitely stay with these gals again!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Rachael and Jen. The room was lovely and super comfortable, well located with a great view out over a beautiful tree lined street. Rachael and Jen also provided us with wifi, towels etc. and some lovely hand made soap which was a nice touch! We were warm and comfortable, even during New York's first blizzard of the season, and really enjoyed the great food and bars just a few minutes walk from the apartment, many of which Rachael was happy to recommend.
Rachael and Jen themselves are lovely. They are super laid back and really friendly, and we really appreciated the warm welcome we received from them both upon arriving in New York. The city can be a little daunting for newcomers so the friendly welcome and advice was much appreciated! We had some great conversations throughout our stay, and would book this room again in a heart beat. Thank you Rachael and Jen!
I had the most wonderful time staying with Rachael and Jen in their lovely place in Brooklyn! The location is absolutely fantastic, with lots of great restaurants just steps away (go to Gueros for the fantastic and cheap tacos!) and the Franklin Ave subway station is just a few blocks away (take an express train into the city and it won't take you more than 15 minutes!) Rachael and Jen welcomed me with open arms, and we hit it off instantly. The room is cozy and sweet, perfect for a single traveler like myself or a couple. The apartment was clean and tidy, with wonderful aromas of homemade meals wafting through the air (Rachael loves to cook, and a few times I caught myself salivating over her creations!) I had some family members asking me last minute if they could fly down to visit me in Brooklyn for a few days and both Rachael and Jen were accommodating and helpful. My month long stay in Brooklyn was amazing, and I couldn't have asked for more gracious and warm hosts. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone traveling to Brooklyn, you'll have a fantastic stay!
Rach and Jen's place was absolutely lovely! The room was clean and cozy and the rest of the house was very neat and tidy. Both Rach and Jen were the perfect hosts - they were so helpful and friendly and we would recommend anyone to stay here! Thanks so much Rach and Jen! :)
