This quaint room sits on the street side of a tree lined street, where natural light filters in throughout most of the day. We are on the top (3rd floor, walk-up) of a lovely, family-owned brownstone which is located conveniently near numerous train lines (2,3,4,5,A,C, or Shuttle to the B,Q) - a short 20 minute commute to Manhattan.
I have enjoyed our vibrant, lively and fun neighborhood for more than 6 years. On the block you can find unique coffee & tea shops with wireless internet, fresh baked goods, friendly bodegas, a couple of bars and EXCELLENT food (Thai, Mexican, Chinese, etc.) and a laundromat on the corner. Just a couple blocks further in either direction you can find almost anything else: Japanese, Italian, Caribbean, West African, fresh juices, shopping, hair shops, fresh produce & grocery stores and so much more.
I am a lovely 10 minute walk from the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Library, gorgeous Prospect Park, weekend farmer's market, and some great shops and local businesses.
Wireless internet and window fan available upon request.
I am known for being hospitable and also for being rather busy. While I work from home part-time in my room/home office, I also tend to keep rather random hours and travel frequently. Do not confuse this with being anti-social, it is only due to a large work load and full lifestyle :)
I ask that if you smoke, please smoke outside. I prefer to maintain a clean, peaceful, pet/animal free apartment. I ask that there are no unannounced guests or visitors and that guests are mindful of time in the bathroom since there is only one bathroom to share. Although I wont be changing your sheets everyday while you are here, I will make sure your room is clean, comfortable and fresh when you arrive.
Also, please be mindful that since I work from home I may be in my room working and on conference calls so I am not always available to chat but I of course dont mind answering any questions you may have or addressing concerns.
I am happy to share common spaces and amentities like the living room, cable tv and kitchen. Please be mindful of the shared spaces and maintaining cleanliness (guests are expected to wash their own dishes and wipe down counters after preparing meals). When using the stove I ask that you stay in the kitchen until you are finished cooking. I also prefer that guests do not sleep in the living room so that the space remains accesible to everyone at all times.
Because I share the building with another family it is important that guests make sure the front door to the building is completely closed (automatically locks when closed) and also guest are not advised to answer the door/let people in if you are not expecting any company. Thank you!
Living with Rachael was amazing! She is a warm person who welcomed me to her house. The bedroom is as shown in the pictures. The area is safe and filled with different cultures, there are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. It's close to the subway station. I stayed in Racheal's house for almost a month and enjoyed my stay.
Rachael is the best host I ever met in New York. She is really a sweet person.
I loved to stay in the room, nicely furnished, very warm in the winter, comfortable medium sized bed. The house too is very clean, cozy and nice. The neightborhood looked safe, quiet and close to everything you may need.
Unfortunately I got sick one weekend there, but she took care of me like (I guess) nobody else would have done. When I will be back to the City that will be the first place I will look for.
Thank you Rachael!
Rachel is an excellent flatmate! Kind, generous, funny.
The apartment is located in a good part of Crown Heights. Franklin avenue, with all its bars, restaurants and vintage shops, is like one minute away. Or walk the opposite direction for five minutes and hit the authentic Caribbean restaurants on Nostrand ave (yummy!). It's well connected too – the 4 and 5 trains are less than five minutes away and the C train is ten minutes away.
The family downstairs can be a bit lively at times but that's part of the charm with this house IMO. Also, the window faces the street so consider bringing earplugs if you're a light sleeper. This street is pretty quiet though, despite it's proximity to Franklin ave.
I had a great stay. Very good value for money. Would stay again for sure.
The room is exactly as shown and described, and Sarah is a kind, friendly, and generous host. I actually wanted to stay longer, but the room was booked up! The neighborhood is great, and access to the subway cannot get much better. I would absolutely stay with Rachael again in the future.
I had a very nice stay at Rachael's place. Lot's of day light in the rooms, well equipped kitchen, nice clean bathroom. Close to nearly everything. Rachael is a very friendly host that makes you feel totaly at home. Recommended!
Rachael was an amazing host, nice and cheerful, always here if you need some help for anything. The neighborhood is very quiet and charming (brownstones houses), close to the subway which is convenient to go to Manhattan. The room was just what I was looking for : simple, nice and quiet. Thank you again, Rachel for welcoming me so good and for being such a great person :-)
