The neighborhood is quite friendly and generally quiet. There are four other houses in addition to mine in our little cul de sac. Three of them belong to Americans who are usually only there during the high tourist season from November through March or April. One of the houses belongs to a Mexican family and they are almost always there, which adds to the security of the neighborhood. They do have a few small dogs, but they are friendly and also add to the security of the area.

The town of Boca de Iguanas does have a small grocery store, hotel, campground, restaurant and several private homes. It only takes a few minutes to drive to the Boca de Iguanas beach on a dirt road which is suitable for cars, and about 10 minutes to walk there.
Boca beach can also be good for surfing and is almost always good for boogie boarding except when the waves are too big, especially during the rainy season from June-September. Do exercise caution when the waves are big as they are generally accompanied by a strong rip tide. If the sea is too rough in Boca, then try swimming in La Manzanilla where it is always more tranquil. There is also an excellent restaurant in Boca de Iguanas called Chantli Mar.

The nearest town with amenities is La Manzanilla, which is about a 10-minute drive away. The best place to walk is to walk to Boca Beach and from there keep walking down the beach until you get to La Manzanilla (about an hour-long walk). The beach is quite nice for walking most of the year. During the rainy season, especially August and September, there can be storms that roll in and leave a lot of debris on the beach. Recommended beachfront restaurants for eating good seafood in La Manzanilla are Bahía Azul and Catos. For a little more upscale dining I recommend Martin´s (Mexican gourmet), Magnolias (international cuisine), Figaro (Italian) and Xacali (Mexican gourmet and pizza). The best tacos in town are at "Chop Chops" right on the street María Asunción. Also on the street María Asunción you can find Lydia´s Mini Market which has excellent selection of produce, etc. The Bamboo Bar is a great place to get drinks at sunset. La Manzanilla also has an art gallery.

Just a 20 minutes north of Boca de Iguanas there are some beautiful virgin beaches that are good for surfing and exploring in Arroyo Seco. About 35 minute north of Boca is the luxury resort of Careyes with world-renowned architecture and several top-notch restaurants as well as an impressive art gallery. The nearest bank is in Melaque, about 20 minutes south of Boca de Iguanas, but there is a cash machine in La Manzanilla now which accepts Mexican debit/credit cards.
