Perfect for a student or professional looking for somewhere close to CalTech, USC or Downtown LA. Walk to Trader Joes, restaurants and the Gold Line train.
Detached guesthouse (400 square feet) with one large main room and a separate kitchen and bathroom in the heart of South Pasadena. The french doors off the main room open out to the lawn and citrus trees. The bamboo hardwood floors in the main room and the tiles in the bathroom are both new and gorgeous. The unit also has a large storage area above the kitchen ceiling that is accessible by a pull-down staircase. The bathroom has a new sink, shower, and decent size shower.
Available starting January 1st, 2017 to a single mature person or possibly a couple (depending on the demand).
The furniture includes a queen size bed with high-end bedding, towels, two couches & desks (in both the guesthouse and office), a cute kitchen table for two, and an Aaron chair in the office. See the photos to see how important nice and solid furniture is to us. We want a tenant who appreciates nice things and likes to keep things nice.
Perfect for a student or professional looking for somewhere close to CalTech, USC or Downtown LA where they can have their own private abode plus a separate fully functional office (200 sq ft) to do professional (i.e. architecture or software design) or academic work. It would also make a great art studio because the floors are cement (you could paint them back to grey when you move out).
You DO NOT need to own a car to live in this neighborhood. Many past tenants have not and have happily gotten by using the Metro and Uber. You can easily walk to Trader Joes, nearby restaurants, a laundry mat and the Gold Line train. Both abodes are fully furnished and include air conditioning, heating (guest house only), and a wireless fast Internet (own LAN router in guest house). You enter the property through a side gate and you have your own private entrances to both abodes.
South Pasadena is a lush, quiet neighborhood that is central to almost everything in Los Angeles. The house is on a historic tree-lined street in a residential part of South Pasadena. If you love architecture and history, this is the place for you. It also is extremely safe!
Please note that this rental is not an option for someone who has regular guests such as visiting children of any age, regular sleepover guests (all overnight guests such as out-of-town family members need pre-approval) or a steady stream of business clients/contractors. Also note that our middle-school age child lives on the property (using our address for the SP school system) and we can not risk our address being used by a non-permanent resident to gain access to the schools. We also don't want strangers who are not tenants coming on the property and causing security risks (i.e. not locking the gate.) Be certain this is NOT a party house (the neighbors will complain about smoking, loud music, or numerous visitors walking through our side gate.) It's not that we are all uptight... it's that our block is a sanctuary and a rare part of LA where kids can actually walk to school and play outside on the streets like how it was back-in-the-day. We would like to keep it that way!
There also is a little black short-haired cat who lives on the property in the main house, but enjoys lying on the grass and out in the boxed gardens. If you are highly allergic to cats, this rental is probably not for you.
You will enter and exit the property through a locked side gate. You have your own entrance to the apartment.

Outside to the left is a patio area and self-watering container gardens (one for you, if you like) to enjoy.
Available street parking (parking permit required in the evenings, but very inexpensive, , $100 a year, $25 a month or $2 a night).
There is a little black short-haired cat who lives on the property and mostly stay in the main house. If you are highly allergic, this rental is probably not for you.
This apartment is really geared for somebody coming to Los Angeles for business purposes, college (USC, Cal Tech etc) or even using it as a base to find a long-term apartment or home in the neighborhood. It's really great for somebody who doesn't want to rent a car (or does not know how to drive) and is working in downtown Los Angeles or Pasadena (accessible in less than 15 minutes by train).
There is a cat living on a property in the main house who sometimes runs around the garden.
This is NOT a party house. No smoking of anything allowed. Please be considerate of my neighbors on all sides and of me and my son living in the main house. After 11:30pm, please no loud music/videos/phone conversation and we will do the same!

Internet professional, author, college professor, mom, foodie, born in Hollywood, spent my adult life in NY. I am traveling A LOT these days because of my book and getting asked to speak at lots of tech conferences and do workshops all over the world. I like things to be clean, nice and peaceful. Unless of course I'm seeing some weird obscure band play live, and in that case I can handle noise and chaos.
