Perched on a hillside in the lovely Elysian Heights area in Echo Park is my cabin in the trees. It's at the end of Valentine lane in an oasis of nature just 1.5 miles from Sunset Blvd and has as much charm as you can handle.
The small cabin has one queen bed and a full in the sleeping loft, there's a full kitchen, one full bath, a sitting room, a back deck and a front patio.
I grew up in rural northern California and after years living in downtown L.A. I needed to find more serenity, and that's what I have in my cabin in Elysian Heights. It is only 1.5 miles from Sunset Blvd. but feels far from the city. It does require a walk from the parking lot down a wooded path to get to the cabin which was built in 1918. If you want the big city, it's 3 miles to downtown, but coming home to the cabin takes 100 paces down the path. If you fear natural surroundings (which some do) then this place might not be for you as the birds, squirrels, and occasional raccoon, skunk, and deer share the property. I love it and many call it the perfect serene hideaway. I will provide some essentials so you can have a nosh after getting settled without heading to one of several convenient grocery stores.
A spiral staircase connects the sleeping loft with a full Tempur-Pedic bed at the top, the sitting room and kitchen on the ground floor, and the bedroom with a queen Tempur-Pedic bed, deck and bathroom on the bottom floor. The basement is down the stone stairs outside and holds the washer and dryer and wine cellar (if you need a wine fix and can't make it to the store, you can grab any bottle with a price tag and leave the money on the kitchen counter).
The view is astounding. It is close enough to the 5 and 2 freeways to be convenient to much of what LA has to offer, and is far enough away that the noise of the traffic has a white noise effect, save for the occasional errant semi horn. Closing the back windows will guarantee peace and quiet, but leave the front ones open to hear the birds.
From the front patio you can make s'mores at the outdoor fireplace or watch the stars through the tree tops in peace.

I will be out of town but I have a close friend to help you with any concerns that I can't solve by phone.

I will email you (email hidden) of my favorite spots, it will be impossible to experience all that's available in the area, but give it a shot.
Please be gracious: smoke outside and use an ashtray, and if you break anything or drink from the bar, please leave payment for it on the kitchen counter before leaving. Thanks in advance!

I grew up in Sonoma County but my Mom is proudly a 5th generation San Franciscan. I am a writer and I own a small Moroccan restaurant, I used to be a sommelier and a Marine (I think the sommelier has stuck a bit more).
I live in Los Angeles and I try to stay as "country" as I can in the big city.
