Thank you also for the heads up about your confusion re: the location of the waterfront in terms of the house. Since the front of the house actually faces away from the lake, that angle has always seemed like Cottage Atwater's "best side!"
In this area, most of the lakefront properties are reached by driving down a back road up on the ridge to the house and then gaining access to the waterfront by walking down a long, steep wooden staircase to the dock. We fell in love with this place for the fact that this is one of the few properties where the house and the dock can be reached directly from the lake road itself. To get to the lake, all you have to do is walk down the driveway. By the way, the reason why the gravel lake road is so narrow is that it was once a train track that ran up the east side of the lake. It's hard to believe now, but long ago, the intersection of the lake road and the road leading down to it was once a bustling center of shipping and commerce.
