We were shocked and saddened to read Christine’s harsh – and we feel, frankly, dishonest – review of our Airbnb. Perhaps Christine become disgruntled when we were unable to honor her last-minute request for a late checkout? Or was it because we asked her to replace the shattered decorative Moroccan bowl that we found in pieces in the garbage? We can’t be sure. But here’s what’s certain: our Superhost status, our 5 stars, and our stellar reviews contradict her claims. Large groups tell us they love having the option to gather at our farm table for board games or to split off and watch TV or play ping-pong in the other house wing. While our kitchen is small, it is not “located under stairs”: it is well equipped, well stocked and has enabled the creation of many a great meal by our guests, some of whom have been professional chefs. Most dishonest are Christine’s claims about our hot tub and the exchange we had about it. We have hosted hundreds of guests and we have had nothing but praise for our hot tub experience. (Just one example: our guest review from November calling our hot tub in “perfect working order”.) As usual, the tub had been checked just prior to the start of the rental by both me and my local hot tub expert, and it was perfect. That’s why we were baffled when Christine waited until the night before she was checking out to complain about the hot tub -- while simultaneously asking for a late checkout. When I said my hot tub guy would have to check the tub, she said she didn’t want him to. We explained that we had new guests checking in the next day and, if something had gone wrong with the water quality or the tub, we would need the time before they check in to treat the water and get it ready. Our man found the water quality to test perfectly and there was no smell. Christine was not “bothered during dinner” – in fact, she wasn’t even at home when he was there. This whole conversation was a matter of a few texts between us – there was no “all evening back and forth”. While upsetting, this does not diminish the overwhelmingly positive experience we’ve had sharing our home with our Guests over the last three years, and we are determined to continue providing a wonderful guest experience at Fern Hollow.
