Easter Cottage is tucked away down a quiet alleyway within a stone’s throw of the centre of Bradford-on-Avon, and five miles from Bath. With its secret garden and beautifully presented interior, this is a peaceful and private four-bedroom house, ideal for families, couples with children and groups of friends.

The cottage has been the family home for over 15 years. It has been redesigned and modernised over that time, so it’s contemporary without having lost any of its period charm.

Lo spazio
On the ground floor, there’s a wooden-floored hallway with desk and chair, a downstairs loo, a cosy carpeted sitting-room with working fireplace (you can use it), and a modern kitchen diner, well stocked with crockery and utensils so you can cook for yourself, if you decide not to eat out. Upstairs, you have four bedrooms: two doubles and two cosy singles, all uncluttered and decorated in soft, modern colours. In one of the single bedrooms, there is a 5 foot 6 inch bed (it has suited a 5 foot 8 teenager over the years). If you will be using this room, please be aware the bed is a bit shorter than a full-size bed.

The bathroom is at the end of the landing, with bath and walk-in shower. We supply our guests with gorgeous cotton sheets and towels, and luxury hand soaps and toiletries. Your stay will be super-homely and comfortable.

Like many cottages of its age (we reckon its 18th century), there is a reasonably steep staircase to climb, which may be a challenge for elder people, and children should of course be supervised (four kids were born and raised here with no disasters!). The house is heated with gas central heating, but being an older house can get chilly in the colder months, so we’ve put a heater in each room. We try to keep our carbon footprint as low as we can, so if you can make do with an extra blanket or duvet (you’ll find plenty around) that would be appreciated.

The garden has been thoughtfully designed and we keep it lovingly tended, with shrubs, flowers and plants in pots. It is a real secret haven, overlooked only by the house and a high old Bath stone wall. Enjoy a barbecue on the patio at the top of the garden, or just relax in the gorgeous garden furniture for a drink and chat. There's a small summerhouse you can sit in for some quiet time with a good book and cold drink.

We do have neighbours, this is a quiet, friendly community. We want to keep it that way. The house is strictly not a party house. Our guests do need to agree to be quiet and respectful to those living nearby. So please, no parties and late night music and revelry. Also, if you’re sitting outside, do bear in mind your voices will carry, so please be considerate. If we receive any complaints during a stay, we will in exceptional circumstances require guests to leave.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
While we don’t say that we provide breakfast, we do our best to leave some basics for you to enjoy: tea, coffee, bread, butter and some breakfast cereals.

Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, Regno Unito

Despite the feeling of being away from it all, you’re in fact seconds from the high street with its shops, restaurants and sites of historic interest. Some places we'd recommend: the spectacular 14th century Tithe Barn; the small, unadorned but historically significant Saxon Church; the medieval Town Bridge crossing the River Avon (look out for the old lock-up on one end), the Kennet and Avon Canal (take a walk to the Cross Guns pub at Avoncliff); and the Barton Farm Country Park, over 30 acres of countryside between the river and the canal where you can observe wildlife, have a picnic by the river or just wander. There's a Thursday food market, and the town is free of big brand shops; our retailers are local and sell everything from health foods to antiques, fresh fruit and veg to vintage clothing. There's a Co-op a minute away from the cottage where you can stock up on most provisions, and a Sainsbury's supermarket for a bigger shop at the other end of town. Be sure to take a wander along the Shambles, an ancient alley where you can browse books and stop for a coffee. You can even go for a swim at the local swimming pool.

As for pubs and eateries, Bradford-on-Avon boasts many fine places to eat and drink. One of our faves is the Bunch of Grapes, a pub-restaurant with a superb menu prepared by an excellent French chef (it helps that it’s literally a few strides from the front gate!). Ravello is a popular family-run Italian restaurant just over the town bridge. Popular with locals, so worth booking. It's hot and noisy, but the food is excellent. There are decent Indian and Thai restaurants, and Chinese and Indian takeaways close by. Timbrell's Yard, on the way to the station, is worth a visit for a coffee, meal or drink. Nice outdoor seating by the river, on-trend furnishings (it's where the cool kids hang out). And try the Three Horsehoes by the station: a proper pub, cheap beer and regular live bands.
