This 1910 Arts and Crafts home is a charmer - and offers spectacular views. It is an excellent location for people who enjoy the out of doors, appreciate views, while also being close to town.

It offers Views of Mt Tamalpais, Sun-bathed rooms, Vintage Wood Floors, and is just 2 Blocks to Restaurants, Parks, Nightlife, Marin Bicycle Museum, & the Bus to San Francisco. This is an older charming Arts and Crafts Home built in 1910 - it has not been updated.

The Vacation Rental: We offer either a one master bedroom (full bed) (great for a couple) with private bath and your own living room and kitchen.

Or the entire upstairs of house with two bedrooms for an additional $65 per night. This would then include a smaller bedroom with a single bed. Please let us know if you went the second bedroom - the extra fee will need to be added as Airbnb does not do this automatically.

There is also a bright kitchen with a breakfast nook, and a new gas stove and everything you need to cook and enjoy a meal, an upper deck with a great View of Mt Tam and surrounding hillsides as well as a birds eye view of the Town of Fairfax below. There is One bathroom with a shower and tub.

One parking spot is provided for our guests.

The "walkability" rating of this home is 10!. Just a quick two blocks and you are right next to restaurants, a movie theater, taverns with music (especially on the weekend), parks, coffee, the Marin Museum of Bicycling, Good Earth - the oldest running organic food store in the US, and just minutes from miles of hiking and biking trails. There are public buses that leave frequently to San Francisco and beyond- (1.5 blocks walk from the Home) and even buses that go west to Stinson Beach and Point Reyes.

You are also just 15 minutes drive from the Larkspur Ferry - a wonderful - fun way to visit San Francisco and enjoy a boat ride in the bay.

Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge and the gorgeous Headlands are all there as well for you to explore nearby.

The home is excellent for a single, couple, or a small family.

Have breakfast on our high deck overlooking Mt Tam in the distance and the town below.

This home is Not for you if you are concerned about walking up and down steps to the home, or you do not want to experience any downtown sounds.

The home is not suitable for unsupervised small children because the upper deck is over 25 feet off the ground and house and grounds are not child proofed.

There are cats inside the home when owners are there - while the home is professionally cleaned and newly washed linens, towels are provided- if you do not like animals or are seriously allergic this is not the home for you.

The home is over 100 years old - so if older windows, no modern upgrades, no dishwasher and no microwave - concern you - you will not be happy here. But if you love charming older homes in a fantastic location, great view, walking distance to town this is for you:)

Fairfax does have live music venues that you can simply walk downtown to and enjoy. On some nights (mainly some Fridays and Saturdays once a month or so) - some music acts can be loud and CAN be heard at the home. We supply earplugs if needed, and a sound machine that can play soothing sleep inducing sounds. Most guests are NOT bothered by the sound, but light sleepers may want to book a place away from town.

There is one parking spot for guests and we ask guests to park perpendicular to the road so as to allow room for other vehicles. Other parking spot is for owner.

If we are not in town - we will leave the key in a designated location for Guest that is spelled out in our welcome packet and directions.

Note that Owners reside on the property some of the time so we do have some of our personal items in the home. We provide a large bureau with three drawers and two empty closets for our guests which should be more than enough room for a short stay.

We always clean our fridge - but we leave condiments on the fridge shelf -like mayonnaise, mustard, mayo, and some canned food etc in cupboard..etc... Our guests are welcome to use any of these.

If we are not in town - we will leave the key in a designated location and the house will be left open.

We are usually offsite during rental periods but If we are in town -we may stay in a separate private Casita on the property next to the rental, behind a tall fence, and use a separate gated private entrance, and/or downstairs apartment, and small bedroom as an office.

We ask guests to comply with the house rules, and to also communicate with us promptly if they need help or cannot find something, or break something.

The Town of Fairfax is an environmentally conscious community situated in the heart of central Marin County and is considered the most progressive of Marin’s 11 incorporated cities.

Fairfax is a mountain biking and hiking Mecca because it is surrounded by committed open space and a nature preserve. The Town’s sylvan setting in the forested hills and its Mediterranean climate encourage outdoor activities year-round.

Fairfax was incorporated in 1931 and has a current population of approximately 7500.

The Art Deco era movie theater is the centerpiece of a vibrant nightlife with top-notch restaurants and well-known clubs with venues for jazz and other popular music.

Within a 30-minute drive of San Francisco to the South or the Pt. Reyes National Seashore to the West, the community is home to many local artists and musicians.

There are public buses that leave frequently to San Francisco and beyond- (1.5 blocks walk from the Home) and even buses that go west to Stinson Beach and Point Reyes ( Prince Charles visited due to its famous organic farming)

Our home is excellent for just walking downtown from the house - just a quick two blocks....and so you are right next to restaurants, movie theater, taverns with music especially on the weekend, parks, coffee, marin museum of bicycling, Good Earth - the oldest running organic food store - over 40 years ...which has an awesome selection and a great buffet...All within walking distance....

You are also just 45 minutes from Stinson Beach - heading west - one of the longest stretches of white sand beaches in N. California - and ...Muir Woods - one of the most historic Redwood Forests - where the UN treaty was signed....

You are just 15 minutes from Larkspur Ferry - and a wonderful ferry ride (about 30 minutes) to San Francisco. There is parking right there - you do have to pay - and I suggest - especially the first time you go - that you give yourself at least 20-30 minutes extra so you do not feel rushed..

There is another ferry leaving from Sausalito - a 30 minute drive from the home. Sausalito is a lovely seaside home.

If you want to drive - that is the only other option - and that takes 45 minutes to get to the Golden Gate Bridge - there is a great park there you can hike and see amazing views... or continue on into the city - add another 15-20 minutes to get to downtown (due to lights and traffic)

Our home is excellent for just walking downtown from the house - just a quick two blocks...

Fairfax does have live music venues that you can simply walk downtown to and enjoy. On some nights (mainly some Fridays and Saturdays) - some music acts can be loud and CAN be heard at the home. We supply earplugs, a sound machine if needed and air purifiers can also be turned on to muffle the noise. Other nights can be quite peaceful when there is little downtown activity.

The cottage was a special place located off a long set of stairs very close to town. It was like stepping into a piece of Fairfax history. It is one of those unique Airbnb listings that really surprise and delight. It may not have had all the mod cons of a more modern abode, but it had genuine authenticity; it was comfortable and we enjoyed ourselves there. But we did have a problem with the noise from the bars on Broadway which funneled up the hill and through the closed windows. It happens only on the weekend though. Cartoon was always available and easy to reach by text and phone when we had questions.

Great little find in Fairfax. The house is perfect getaway for two people. Fairfax and the surrounding area is a great place for mountain biking (which we did) and the town itself is charming. Downtown Fairfax is only a 3-4 minute walk from the house and has some nice restaurants and bars with live music.

Catriona was welcoming right from the start. She was also professional through the initial rental steps and kept in contact during our stay in case we needed anything. The home was well-prepared for our arrival, and it's clear that she takes pride in offering a clean living space. As the property description states - this is not the right home for someone who requires the most modern amenities. If you're looking for a charming place with views that is really close to town, it's the perfect spot and reasonably priced. We had a great weekend in Fairfax and highly recommend a relaxing weekend of exploring the local open spaces, breakfast at the Hummingbird, and evening drinks and live music and Perri's. Highly recommend Catriona as a host and we loved our weekend at this unique property.

We enjoy making our guests feel at home.

We love the out of doors, hiking and small towns and our rental reflects this.

The rental is also used as a retreat center for youth and adults. Your vacation helps to support these nationally recognized non-profit programs. So you are doing "good" while you relax.
