We stayed at Genie's house for 6 nights as we explored Seoul. Genie was always responsive and extremely helpful - particularly useful for first-timers such as us. The house is very well set up and located in a great neighborhood with great restaurants and close to the subway. The sleeping arrangements take a little while to adjust to but by turning down the excellent underfloor heating we worked it out. Wifi was brilliant and Genie provided a free pocket device which we used around town. We used Genie's recommended taxi driver - Mr Lee who was always on time and very helpful. Loved Seoul and the house made it an easy and comfortable stay.
Genie's Han-ok is a lovely home tucked in a corner just north of the junction of Gyeongbokgung Station. As a host she was prompt in replies to all my queries prior to the trip and provided excellent advise and directions on the area. Her replies are quick and precise. The home is close to an interesting marjet(Tongin market) where you can purchase W5000 tokens to exchange for various items to full up your lunch box. Quite an experience! Also the famous Toskochon ginseng chicken is less than 10mins walk away. Security couldn't be any tighter with policemen patrolling the streets due to the proximity to the Chinese embassy. Very complete home with a extensive kitchen equipment. Coffee enthusiast's would be thrilled to find the clever coffee dripper, woodneck, coffee bean grinder. Meticulously kept home with much attention paid to a travellers's needs. Love the pocket wifi. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful time staying at Genie's Hanok. We absolutely love the house. It is very beautiful, clean & everything is also provided for. There are many restaurants, cafes & shops around the vicinity.
As mentioned, it is near Chinese embassy, so it is extremely safe with police patrolling the main road & alleys around the location for 24hour. It is also a walking distance to Gyeongbokgung palace & Subway. Again, since the area is near to Presidential Palace, the whole neighbourhood is under high security. Take note though, if you try to take shortcut to Samcheongdong through the front of Presidential Palace, you will be politely asked to take a detour around Gyeongbokgung palace.
Although we didn't get to meet Genie as she was busy during our stay, she was very helpful in responding to our queries. It was a great Korean experience & like many people before us, we highly recommend staying at Genie's house.
Nicely restored traditional Korean home with a small courtyard. Genie's home is very clean and has all the modern amenities including a pocket wifi and clothes washer. Location is also great too with easy walking distance or short subway ride to many sites. Would love to stay here again!
We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at Genie's charming house! As the taxi driver was a bit lost and reluctant to get us there, Genie was waiting for us on the street when we arrived!
The house was compact but perfect for three of us to stay in. Well equipped with wifi and the latest gadgets. Its own courtyard which could easily be used for resting out in the evening, or breakfast.
It's located next to an Embassy which is guarded by police 24/7, making the neighbourhood very safe. The location is also ideal for visiting the Palace and Sam Cheong Dong.
Will definitely recommend it for the Korean experience!
Genie's home was spick and span and extremely tidy and quaint. It was great to stay in a house with such a traditional Korean character instead of an impersonal hotel. You feel like you're in a Korean reality variety show or drama! Everything provided in the house was in excellent condition and things like toiletries, towels and cutlery were very useful and helpful. Her free provision of a portable wifi device was a godsend and really value-added to our holiday. In the house, the wifi was also excellent. The house was easy to locate from the Geongbokgung MRT station (but take note it's easily a 15 minute walk) and along the way are many restaurants, cafes and provisions. It was also easily accessible via airport coach from Incheon airport.
The downsides were that the bedding was not nearly thick enough, so it was kinda tough sleeping on the hard floor with scarce padding. Toilets were very small so when you shower, everything gets wet. Another thing which could be improved was if there were mirrors (full-length or at least half body) available outside of the toilet for use.
However these areas for improvement did not detract much from the overall pleasantness of the stay. We did have a memorable and good experience in the han-ok
Comfortable lovely house, perfect size for 4 person. Kitchen, dining table, living room with TV, computer, free (website hidden) phone,, pocket WIFI, what more can you ask! Good location, we went to palaces, shopping areas, almost everywhere by walking. Clean and safe area, security guards everywhere.
Very beautiful, thanks for your welcome.
My friends from four different countries stayed at Genie's for a week in mid-July. They told me that they very much enjoyed a unique experience that the Korean Traditional House can give, and the location was perfect as it is close to main attractions such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Insadong, and Samchungdong. May friends were also impressed that the house retains the traditional feature and at the same time is well equipped with modern technology.
For information, people who are not used to Korean futon(Yo) will have to use both air mattress and Yo for sleeping. That is what my friends did during their stay.
Genie is a friendly host and she communicates well in English. Although she was busy during our check-in, she kindly arranged her sis-in-law to attend to us.
The traditional house is charming, lovely and beautiful. It is cosy and the house is clean. You have everything you need from a kitchenette with a large fridge, ironing boards, hairdryers, ipod dock speakers and small but really clean bathrooms. If you have not tried sleeping on a traditional futon on wooden flooboards, this is definitely a different experience! (Air beds are provided if you wish to use them). Overall, although its more expensive than most Airbnb listings, it is worth an experience to try out.
