Beograd, Serbia

Located on the Danube, Europe's second longest river connecting Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine before draining into the Black sea.

Surrounded by Bela Crkva, a quaint historic town with beautiful architecture named after the fabled local church translating to "White Church". This was a historic site during the second world war.

Historic and majestic, follow the river to famous tourist sites. Here are some notable nearby attractions:

Golubac Fortress (35 minute ferry crossing)
Crossing the river with the ferry, on the border with Romania, a stones-throw away is the Golubac fortress. A heritage site it was built in the 14th century by the Medieval Serbian state. Sporting 10 towers with a tumultuous history, it changed hands frequently between the Turks, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Serbs, and Austrians. We're not sure why it hasn't yet been featured in Game of Thrones!

Viminacium: (Quick 45 minute drive away)
Currently the most important archaeological site and discovery in Europe, boasting one of only two fully intact mammoth skeletons in the world. With Roman ruins, artifacts and remains discovered in the area it is believed the city was created during the 1st century AD with a peak population of 40,000 inhabitants; one of the biggest cities in the area at the time. It contains the remains of temples, streets, squares, amphitheaters, palaces, hippodromes and Roman baths. With numerous animal remains it is believed the Romans hosted gladiator tournaments at the site.

Lepenski Vir (1 hour away)
An important archaeological site, it is host to the Mesolithic Iron Gates Culture of the Balkans believed to have been created between 9500-6000 BC.

Belgrade (1 hour away)
Visit Serbia's capital, home to 2.5M Serbs.

Smederevo (1.5 hours away)
Located on the Danube, Europe's second longest river connecting Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine before draining into the Black sea.
