Little, mid century, ranch style, private guest house, on Point Dume peninsula. We are surrounded by Big & Little Dume coves, Westward & Zuma Beaches. Malibu is 27 mi. long and 2 mi. wide.
Cottage has one bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room,w/ large tv and wifi. Picture window looks back to mountains, & down to our lovely tennis court. Bring your own or borrow rackets to play.
We are 3 blocks to beach in each direction as seen on map, w/key to private beach.
A lovely private tennis-and-beach getaway with lots of open land, set in Maibu's beloved Point Dume neighborhood. The clean, detached space has a homey feel, smart swing-out windows for fresh Malibu sea air, and the rooms are appointed with comfortable furniture, orchids, wi-fi, a large desk area (great for writers), entertainment system, and a full kitchen. We have cultural touches inside the guest-house like the Beatles Anthology, complete cartoons of The New Yorker, a "Far Side" comics collection, and other new and vintage books, as well as NY Times travel suggestions. Little Dume beach is a gem for surfers and general beachgoers alike, and ocean-lovers are also close to Zuma, El Matadar, County Line, etc. Also recommend exploring the back end of Mulholland highway, a serenely pastoral region that leads to wineries and displays the old, untouched Malibu, just like the tide pools and sea caves at Leo Carillo beach, or some of the secret hiking paths.
On the issue of food: The property is near (and walkable to) quite a bit, including Sunlife Organics for great juices and smoothies as well as Cafecito Organico, a top fair-trade coffee roaster; Central Malibu also has a new, fresh market with excellent prepared food called Pacific Coast Greens and a great new seasonal/local restaurant called V's.
Many beach locations from classic and not so classic movies are all around for the film buff. NYTimes article '36 hrs in the 'bu' is our area. One block away, grocery, coffee shop, restaurants and new bookstore. Walk the beach, bike, or hike the mountain or have a game of tennis.
Our area is an eclectic, super safe, residential area, full of nature loving, the sports minded and families, as well as our many celebrities.
Important note: There are no private showings of this property. Contact for any special information you might need.

Please see my previous review of this wonderful property owned and run by the best people in Malibu! Patricia's place continues to be our favorite place to stay. This is both because Patricia and her husband are uncommonly warm and generous, and because the space is as comfortable, nicely appointed, and clean as a home--in the best part of Malibu, with a beautiful tennis court and key-access to a fantastic beach that very few people get a chance to enjoy. We can only hope there will be a free space in the calendar for our next beach/tennis getaway!
What a wonderful experience. Patricia's place is in a dream location. She was a perfect host. There if needed but otherwise busy with her own life. Great large flat screen tv and all the stations you could imagine. She even had a guitar that being a musician, made my day. Place was tastefully decorated with good books and a useful kitchen. The bedroom was comfy with a nice bed. Plenty of towels and very clean. I hope she will have me back the next time I go on a surfing trip.
This place was absolutely perfect. You're situated away from the craziness on PCH, where many of the other Malibu hotels & motels are located, and have great access to two beaches; one which allows you to watch the sunrise and the other to view the sunset. Patricia, the host, was incredibly accommodating, allowing us to be flexible with our arrival and departure time, greeting us with homemade cookies and taking us on a personal tour of the neighborhood. This place is perfect for a simple weekend getaway where you can truly kick back and relax. We can't wait to get back there! Thank you for such a great experience!
Great location, a reasonably short walk to beach, Point Dume, and food/coffee. House was comfortable, our area was private and homey. Loved being able to just walk to a beach, or a 5 minute drive to the West beach to see the sunset everyday. Would definitely stay again for relaxation and beauty.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Patricia and Jeff's comfy guest house! We stayed there with our 1-year-old daughter for three weeks in January. The stay was a delight from the start. We were warmly welcomed with fresh fruit, newly baked cookies, and Patricia's marvelous tour to orient us to the neighborhood. The cottage is well-equipped with everything you need, as well as plenty of fun books and other media (DVDs, giant television) to pass the time. We especially enjoyed the local touches, in the form of decor, magazines, and books by some of the neighboring celebrities. Patricia was a very flexible hostess, as we rearranged furniture to accommodate our toddler, which we appreciated. She also gave us several of her (now grown) son's books and other baby items to use, which was so sweet - the Little Tykes car was an especially big hit with our daughter. There is no shortage of fun things to do in the area! Some of our favorite activities included spending time on the breathtakingly beautiful private beach, visiting with the sheep who live across the street, walking to Toddler Storytime at the local bookstore, sunsets on Westward Beach or the Malibu Pier, and dining in the unique outdoor setting of the Malibu Cafe. Our daughter also enjoyed toddling around the tennis court and spending time with Dexter the dog, who is a sweetheart. Patricia and Jeff are lovely people, and it always brightened our day when we ran into them! We had an absolutely wonderful visit, and we only regret that we couldn't stay longer! We would definitely stay here again.
Patricia could not have been more helpful, accommodating and generous hosting us. She gave us a tour of the celebrity neighborhood, beaches and baked amazing chocolate chip cookies for us upon our arrival. The place was clean and had all the conveniences we need for this rather historic 50'-60' style ranch style home. Lovely grounds and beautiful tennis court. Also a wonderful dog!
We couldn't have been more happy with our decision to stay at this guesthouse in Malibu. The place is exactly as it looks in the pictures- spacious and perfect for two. Lots of added bonuses as well: including fresh fruit and cookies awaiting us. We're also tennis players so we made use of the tennis court and ball machine.
Patricia was the best host we've ever had using Airbnb. She was communicative and accommodating. Plus she took time out to show us the area and shared some local stories. Can't beat it.
We're looking forward to staying here agian in the future.
Patricia contacted us to send photos of the house and to give us instructions on how to get in about a week or so before our trip. We communicated via email a few times and then by text so she would know we were arriving (since we got in around 11:30 pm). She put lights on for us and told us where to find the keys. In the morning we met up with her to get a tour of the area. This was my favorite part of the trip!
The tour was great because there is a private entrance to walk down to Point Dume and is near celebrity homes (if that intrigues anyone). She has lived there a long time and knows who lives where and will tell you stories and share about her neighbors. She also showed us the beach and gave recommendations on what to do, where to eat and get groceries. There's a tennis court out back to play on when it's warm.
The cottage itself had new flowers in a vase in the bathroom and was really clean with amenities and wifi, parking included. Hotels charge for that so we appreciated that being included! Also she was the most hospitable person and loved to tell us what to see that may interest us in the area if we wanted to know.
The place was comfy, cozy and well worth the money over a hotel. It was secluded, beautiful, near beaches and I learned that Malibu is really just a laid back, cool place where people live quiet lives and enjoy a sort of Hawaiian type lifestyle of surfing, chilling and getting away from the busyness of Santa Monica or LA.
Very close to the highway and access to Santa Barbara, San Diego, anything you want to do. She left magazines to read on the area and a map of previous movie shoots that happened in different beach lagoons and other areas which was interesting (if you have time).
We are going to tell friends and family to go stay and we can't wait to come back. I'm thinking a writing retreat for me would be in order and maybe stand up paddleboarding, horse riding (nearby) and lots and lots of beautiful R&R.
This is a great way to enjoy the Malibu/Point Dume area as a local! The cottage is charming, and Patricia and Jeff are wonderful hosts. After a friendly introduction to the cottage and neighborhood, our hosts left us to ourselves to come and go conveniently during our stay. We saw more of Dexter the adorable family dog- who would often greet us as we came in and out.. The cottage had everything we needed, was bright and sunny, and as an added bonus, had a massive flat screen TV! We spent limited time in the cottage however, considering the beautiful mountains and beaches of Malibu. We enjoyed morning runs to Point Dume, and walks along Little Dume beach. If you want to experience Malibu as a local, this location is ideal.
Having been raised in Southern California and lived in Malibu, Patricia's place was great for me! If was fun seeing how the Pt. Dume area has changed over the years, but its beauty remains the same. Patricia is a great host, and who can turn down fresh baked chocolate chip cookies?
