We were very happy with this condo. The location was perfect; close to Mt Tabor and in the wonderful Hawthorne St. district, a fun place to walk and explore. Lots of restaurants and interesting shops. The condo was clean, perfectly equipped and the bed was great. We did some cooking and found everything we needed in the kitchen. We definitely recommend Kim and her condos.
My girlfriend and I came upon the Hazelnut because another host abruptly cancelled on us. Kim was wonderfully responsive and asked if a change of reservation location was ok with us. We were traveling to Portland for a week, including being there for the Fourth of July. We really had the best time and the Hazelnut was a wonderful little place to call home for the week.
When we first arrived, we tried calling Kim and left a voicemail to say we had arrived. She arrived at the condo shortly after and told us she didn't see that we called, no worries. She walked us through the entrance codes and house rules as well as contact numbers and then left us to our vacation.
The condo was very cute and quite spacious. The neighborhood felt safe and was very quiet, even with a bar across the street. We felt like we had a lot of privacy and even with it being record setting temperatures in Portland, the apartment could be cooled down pretty easily, the bedroom at least. Parking was a breeze, honestly, couldn't be easier. It's street parking and free, Kim explains it to you when you're there.
The location was awesome. We had a rental car and everything was just about twelve minutes away. SE Hawthorne was PACKED full of shops and restaurants, bars, coffee shops, donuts, tacos, etc...
I've seen this mentioned briefly and wanted to touch on it. There definitely is a smell, an odor, a musty odor to the place. And the bathroom really did smell like sewage. We got used to the smell after a couple of days, but it stuck to everything. I'm not sure what exactly the odor is coming from but, just a heads up. I'm not sure the smell would be enough for us to not return. I do think that the cuteness and the accessibility of the condo far outweighs the odor.
Thanks for the really great stay, Kim!
When we check in all of our guests in we let them know that we are available to them 24/7 and all they need to do is telephone us. If TJ had a problem he should have let us know. As he mentioned we are accommodating and would have done whatever it took to please him as a (website hidden) was instructed that the air conditioning unit was in the bedroom. That the thermostat is used for heat only. When TJ departed we noticed that the fan from the furnace was set to ON instead of AUTO or OFF since it is not the heating (website hidden) was pulling up stale basement air through the furnace. It would have been a quick explanation and an even quicker fix if TJ had just used the contact telephone numbers that he was provided.
We loved the location and neighborhood. We're not used to exiting our front door and entering a great bakery 20 steps away. Made us wonder why we were grinding and brewing our own coffee.
The decor & ambiance of the flat was perfect for us and a total surprise. Fun! Great bed, nice fresh air, sunny while we were there, cozy living room--just a great place to stay.
Parking, navigation and traffic were easy, internet was very fast, cable TV meant we could watch our beloved Warriors win the NBA championship. In addition, Kim and her daughter Kate couldn't have been nicer, more welcoming or more helpful.
Our dog was a bit jumpy at normal city noises having spent the prior 4 days being a country dawg in Southern Oregon. Access to the gated garden behind our unit and to a small "park" on an empty lot at the corner of 51st & Lincoln a block away really helped her settle in. Soon, we could leave the front door open for her to people-watch the foot traffic passing by. (Now that she's home on our quiet street, she wants to know what gives?)
Tabor Bread, ¿Por Que No?, New Seasons, Toji Korean, Mt. Tabor Fine Wines--we hit all these spots just a 0- to 10-minute walk from the flat. (Now that we're home a half-mile from the nearest cafe, we want to know what gives?)
A completely positive experience all the way around, thanks Kim & Kate!
P.S. clever entry system, we want one at home.
Great experience. The apartment is located in a great neighborhood, close to cool bars, good food, and coffeeshops. The entire process was a breeze. I'm in Portland with some regularity and would definitely stay here again.
What a wonderful place to call home for a weekend! Kim greeted us and was exceptionally friendly, checking in us early with our dog in tow.
The Hazelnut Condo couldn't reflect the images on the airbnb profile any better... a great amount of space for two humans and a dog - uniquely decorated, truly a home away from home.
Steps away from coffee shops, restaurants, bars, parks and public transit - yet tucked away just enough on a quiet, cozy block in Southeast Portland. We will definitely be back!
Great place! Kim received us and was very friendly. The condo looks like it's pictured. Good amount of space, cutely decorated, very cozy. The locations was AMAZING! So much to see and do, right outside the door! We would definitely stay here again.
Kim and Francis were the perfect hosts and there product was as marketed.
We called 15 minutes before we arrived and Francis met us and explained the workings of the Condo.
The place was spotless, tastefully furnished, and had everything one would need.
There were filters for the coffee pot, oils for cooking and basic spices.
The bathroom was terrific with a good bath a shower with a dispenser that did shampoo, conditioner and body soap. The towels were first rate.
Our Golden retriever, Maizy and the two of us will never stay anywhere else in Portland. With children there, the visits will be many.
I heartily recommend The Hazelnut.
Kudos to Kim and Francis
