If La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter, with their tourist traffic and petty peddlers, proved a bit too circus-like for your refined tastes then you might find what you're looking for in the district of El Born instead. This delightful corner of Barcelona has all the beauty of the Barri Gotic, with those characteristic narrow streets and quaint cafe-covered squares, but it just far enough removed from the beaten track to maintain a bit of calm, charm and dignity. Despite the popular tourist attractions of Picasso Museum, Ciutadella Park (also home to Barcelona Zoo) and the recently opened Mammoth Museum, the area has maintained a high degree of local life and you won't be surrounded at every corner by English-speaking voices alone.
The heart of the district is undoubtedly the picturesque Passeig del Born 'square' (in fact it's an oblong). Once the site of medieval jousting competitions, nowadays this tree-lined street is a nightlife hub which comes alive with hip 20-something locals from the early evening onwards eating crepes, nibbling on tapas and imbibing beers and cocktails in the area's abundance of natty little bars. On warm nights many folk will purchase cans of beer from plastic-bag wielding Pakistanis and drink for cheap on the benches and pavement, giving the place a Bohemian and laidback street party vibe.
At one end of the Passeig Del Born (known as the Paseo del Born in Spanish) rises the district's most famous building, the wonderful Santa Maria del Mar church, instantly recognisable by its octagonal towers and large rose-shaped stained glass window. At the foot of this Gothic great you'll find a smaller square, offering one of the most picturesque places to lunch al fresco in the whole of Barcelona... if you can grab a seat at the in-demand cafes.
Other than the joys of medieval architecture, and the aforementioned Picasso Museum (another Barcelona highlight, and one that reveals sides of the great artist many visitors won't be familiar with), El Born is characterised by its little treasures. This fashionable district is the place where you'll chance upon innovative boutique shops selling recycled bags, champagne bars serving up first class Cava (El Xampanyet is something of a legendary stop-off in Barcelona!), or discover the joys of Lomo photography. Other treasures include the Chocolate Museum, the ever-popular Cal Pep restaurant, and - if you're liberal with your estimation of Born's boundaries - the amazing Palace of Catalan Music.

Noemi was a very nice host and the flat is nice with a terrace right in the best area of born. Good for parents with a small kid. There's everything you'll need. Cheers!
The apartment was in a great location and a character-filled building. Born is right near the old quarter but not quite as touristy. And the flat was close to l'Eixample which has great restaurants, bars and architecture and not far from the beach. Noemi was a very helpful host and so was the owner of the apartment, especially when the wifi cut out.
The Borne was the perfect neighborhood for us to be in! And the flat was an amazing opportunity to stay in a grand old Barcelona building with history and charm. We loved the rooms and tile floors and the bed!
Noemi is a fantastic host. She helped us with all our needs and shared great neighborhood info. When we did hit a glitch, she was right around the corner to help us out.
She helped make this a very special vacation. Thanks Noemi!
Noemi's apartment is perfectly located, in El Born right around the corner from Parc de la Cuitadella. Some convenient markets nearby. The apartment is extremely quiet and easy for sleeping, with a large, private, closed in terrace. I would certainly stay here again. Highly recommended. Thanks, Noemi !
My mother and I stayed at Noemi's charming, quiet, brilliantly located apartment for the week and had a wonderful time. The flat was great and looked just like the photographs. The terrace was fabulous, and we loved sitting out there to eat meals or drink wine. El Born was completely delightful--from the old Convent across the street where we sat beneath the courtyard arcade in the mornings to drink our espressos, to the hip studios and boutiques, to the many plazas where we sat till late eating delicious dinners under the stars. Noemi herself is lovely and was so helpful, friendly, and gracious. She was completely accommodating about our arrival and departure, and responded quickly the few times I contacted her with questions. She even set up an extra single bed for us so we wouldn’t have to share a bed. You will love your stay, and will love dealing with Noemi--she will immediately feel like an old friend rather than a new business acquaintance!
Noemi was a fabulous host, our warm and enchanting Catalan friend. Her lovely, comfortable apartment was the perfect base for exploring the formidable charms of Barcelona.
Noemi's apartment was just as amazing and spacious as it looks , with the beautiful balcony. Also it was extremely well situated on a quiet street yet just next to all the cool shopping and tapas bars- we couldn't have wished for better, so i definitely recommend it. As for Noemi, she such a lovely person with lots of funny stories and tips for the Primavera festival that we were there for. We had an amazing time!
We were in this nice and very comfortable apartment in Born for 30 days . It was very nice, in a beautiful part of the town, near to everything. Noemi is a perfect host and she help us in every moment. We will return soon possible in Barcellona and we would like stay in the same apartment. We like the holiday so much, and we like the hospitality of Noemi also very much.

Beautiful apartment, quiet, with a great location, not far from the market, near a large park, in general, we have chosen a very good option :) In winter may be cold but heaters save the day. Another plus is that the ladder is not high rise, second floor. And the biggest plus - friendly and cheerful hostess :) Thank you, Noemi!
