If you feel 'bushed,' sail to Sunshine Coast, a short ripple from Vancouver. Smell the clean, fresh air. "Barooga" has lush berry bushes and a path to our private beach on Georgia Strait.

Westcoast living at its best ... perched on the dramatic Sunshine Coast of British Columbia Canada, Barooga offers beauty, intimacy, and style. The homestead delivers unparalleled, 180-degree, water-front views of the Georgia Strait, lush and well-maintained grounds, palatial proportions inside and out, and most importantly, peace, quiet, and tranquility.

From beginning to end, the residence represents the best of Halfmoon Bay. When you enter the three bedroom house, you are greeted by a panoramic view of the Georgia Strait, dotted with coastal islands and lighthouses, set against the backdrop of the snow capped mountains of Vancouver Island. The home is dominated by a great room that includes kitchen, dining, and living areas, totalling approximately 1000 square feet.

Alder and maple firewood is stacked next to the welcoming fireplace. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything for which you could ask.

The palatial proportions of the great room lead to an outdoor deck of equal area for entertaining, relaxing with a glass of wine and a book, or just admiring the striking view. Architectural deck lighting sets the stage for evening relaxation. Wander down the meandering path to a private beach of over 200 feet. Take in the fresh, sea salt air and crystal clear waters of the pacific.

The homestead contains three fully-furnished and well-appointed rooms: one king size bed, one queen, and one double with a single. There is no shortage of facilities, with 2 bathrooms. There are iPod clock radios stations in each room.

The property is located but a hop, skip and a jump away from Vancouver. The drive is broken up by a relaxing 45 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale that features the dramatic landscape of the Coast Mountains and number of islands.

Please note that during the summer months, guests may only book full weeks (i.e. June, July, and August). That said, please feel free to inquire for a shorter duration during these periods.

There is a beautiful pebble beach, which is a vigorous hike down, that offers beautiful views of Merry Island and the Georgia Straight.

At the beach, there is a naturally occurring pool at low tide that is great to swim in.

The front of the property offers a large green lawn that guests can play games on or just rest and relax and watch the cruise ships pass by.

It's also worth noting that the spa seats six people!

There are so many amazing things to do around the Sunshine Coast while you're visiting us.

We can tell you how to get to Trout Lake, which boasts great fresh water swimming. It's only a short drive or lovely hike through Triangle Lakes.

They're also an amazing fish hatchery kids love to go to nearby.

Halfmoon Bay has a lovely government wharf and a traditional general store that visitors love having a look at.

In addition, there are beautiful parks, including Coopers Green, where you can swim on a worn, pebble beach, Welcome Beach, which is a sandy white beach (a local secret!), and beautiful hikes nearby, including Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park and Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park. These are second to none on the west coast!

And, if you like blackberries, bring an appetite! There are plenty of wild blackberries on offer at the right time of year that make yummy pies!

In the winter, there is amazing cross country skiing and snow shoeing on Dakota ridge. It boasts beautiful views of the coastline from up there, but bring your chains!

Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia, Canada

Located across the Strait of Georgia from the southeast corner of Vancouver Island, Halfmoon Bay is nestled on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. The area was originally inhabited by members of the Coast Salish First Nations, who thrived in its mild climate, enjoying plenty of fresh water, fish and the fertile land. Today a pretty village with funky shops, galleries and cafes sits among the trees, flanked by Coopers Green Park, a grassy expanse leading out to the water where divers often happen upon some of the largest octopuses in the world. Protected by Thormanby Island, Halfmoon Bay's calm waters are utilized by kayakers, sailors and boaters. For walkers and cyclists, Redrooffs Road is a 10 km (6 mi) ring along the coast, and those on two wheels can push their way into the nearby Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, where there are several bike-in campsites. Surrounding parks include Sargeant Bay Provincial Park Sechelt to spot soaring eagles and elusive owls, Simson Provincial Marine Park, which is accessible only by water and Spipiyus Provincial Park, one of the only spots on the island where hunting is allowed.

Robyn and John met in 1973 in Grand Forks, British Columbia. Robyn was a wide eyed, young nurse practitioner working at the local hospital. John, a mechanical engineer by education, was working for Boundary Electric. It was love at first sight. The two settled into a house in the North Fork and lived a happy, yet sometimes cold, existence in BC’s Okanagan. It was always their dream to come to Vancouver and live on the water. And that they did, raising two boys. Although the two loved Vancouver, they longed for the coastal life they had dreamed so much about. In 1989 they purchased Barooga. At the time, it was a wild, wooded, and sprawling 1.5 acre property. There was much to be done—the only accessible portion of the property was by the roadside. Through diligent progress, they, their two sons, and extended family blazed a trail all the way down to the beach. The property was slowly cultivated, planting fruit trees, grape vines, and rhododendrons. Robyn and John have always loved visiting with others (preferably over a glass of wine), and welcoming new and old friends to Barooga is a dream come true. Every year that they spend on the Sunshine Coast, they are more convinced that it is truly la belle vie. They are always at the disposal of guests and happy to help answer any questions on the hidden treasures of Halfmoon Bay.
