Altre cose da tenere a mente
This is an awesome location if you are wanting to be in close proximity to Belfast (via car usually although there are 2 buses too) or if you want to explore around Strangford Lough which is only 2 miles away.

Strangford Lough has a one of the Top 5 drives in Europe and this is practically on our doorstep. You can drive down one side of the Lough to Portaferry and then get the Ferry to Strangford and then drive up the other side of the Lough. There are lots of historic sites along the way and the place is steeped in history.

Also note we do have a cat and she is very much part of the family. She usually disappears when strangers are around and is a very quiet cat (she literally meows once or twice every 3 or 4 days and I thought there was something wrong with her voice box when we first got her). If you have allergies to animal hair then this probably isn't the place for you to stay. We have a friend allergic to cat hair and she takes antihistamines when she is here and is fine but it is something to be aware of.

Newtownards, Northern Ireland, Regno Unito

This is a lovely little town with a quaint town square that has a lot of historic buildings that date right back. We are also not far from Strangford Lough and Rough Island otherwise known as Island Hill (about 1.5 miles by car). Our house is within the Comber limits but is nestled in farm land with views over rolling hills towards Scrabo Tower to the back and a large Garden to the front and side.

Comber was the home town of Thomas Andrews who designed the Titanic and their home is still standing today. is family had been prominent in Comber for generations, establishing various commercial enterprises in the town including a linen mill.

Thomas's parents were Thomas Andrews Snr and Eliza Pirrie, who was the sister of Lord Pirrie, the future chairman of the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. His eldest brother, John Miller Andrews, went on to become Prime Minister of Northern Ireland while his younger brother, James, became Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland.

When Thomas inspected the damage to the ship that fateful night he advised captain Philips that the ship was doomed. In the sure knowledge that the fate of Titanic had been sealed, his actions were said by many survivors to be nothing short of heroic. He spent the final moments of his life encouraging passengers to get to the lifeboats. The following cablegram, dispatched by the White Star Line from its New York office, described what he did:

"After accident, Andrews ascertained damage, advised passengers put heavy clothing, prepare leave vessel. Many sceptical about seriousness damage, but impressed by Andrews' knowledge, personality, followed his advice, saved their lives. He assisted many women, children to lifeboats. When last seen, officers say was throwing overboard deck chairs, other objects, to people in water. His chief concern safety of everyone but himself."

In Comber, the life of Thomas Andrews Junior is commemorated by the Memorial Hall, built by public subscription and opened in 1915. Andrews' body was never recovered from the Atlantic, but he is remembered on the family grave with the words: "Pure, just, generous, affectionate and heroic. He gave his life that others might be saved.

Hopefully you may consider coming to stay in our home which is described by many as a Retreat or Haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
