One bedroom w/full futon and desk available, full-access to house, internet included. Cell phone reception is good; I have close access to the I-84 freeway and the Columbia River. Free-thinkers (just it) most welcome. :)

L'alloggio

I live in a rustic 2BR ranch house, downtown Mosier (5 miles east of Hood River). It's beautiful here, with world-class biking, hiking, windsurfing, kiteboarding, etc.. I am only 1 hour from Portland, 40 minutes from Mt. Hood Meadows, and 15 minutes from The Dalles. My home is clean but definitely rustic (if you don't fully understand this word, just it). It is basically one of the last "surf shacks" in the Gorge. The beach is a 10-minute walk from my house.

My cat behaves like a dog and is quite friendly. He is generally not allowed into the guest bedroom (unless you want him there). I clean out his litter box daily.

What's weird about this house (which WAS the old Mosier motel manager's house) is the two bedrooms adjoin each other. In other words, they share a wall. I have discrete access to the outside via my bedroom's own door, so I don't need to pass through the guest bedroom to get to the rest of the house. If your bedroom door is shut, I will not pass. However, if it's hot and the AC (located in the guest room) is running, I gotta have the adjoining door cracked open so my bedroom stays cool enough for sleeping. Some Americans have trouble with this situation. I don't.

I recently had a new shower case installed around the tub/shower. What an improvement! It still needs paint though.

My home is non-smoking; this includes the stoop because otherwise smoke will get sucked into the house due to pressure differentials created by wind, etc.. Also, we have a serious burn ban in effect here. So please be conscious of your fires (including smoking and butts, which cause many wildfires) which technically are not allowed outside at all. Thank you.

Accesso ospiti

Full access to the kitchen, bathroom, and storage is granted.

Interazione con gli ospiti

I think I'm friendly, but it depends how busy I am and what the weather is doing. My free time involves work, weather, recreation, surf and garden projects, etc. I enjoy sharing breakfast, leading a short tour of Mosier, or simply giving some local tour advice.

Incidentally, I do not believe in pandering; I see it as a form of dishonesty. So, if you ask for my opinion, I will give it to you...whether it matches your opinion or not. Disagreement is OK and can be a sign of respect and the segway to learning and growth. Disagreement is not a sin or crime.

Altre cose da evidenziare

My home is rustic but clean. It's not a luxury vacation home. You may find that in Hood River or even someplace else in Mosier and for much more $. On the bright side, I am right in the middle of biking, hiking, windsurfing, kiting, SUP, etc. Bring your bike!

Absolutely no smoking, including on the stoop (where convection sucks smoke into the house).

Pet negotiable. I've had dogs stay. I like dogs. Yours must not try to kill my cat OR attack my neighbor's chickens. In other words, please control and supervise your dog and do not let it run loose anywhere while you are here. There is a schoolyard next door. Please treat your dog as if it were a 3yo child. This is for everyone's safety consideration. I believe this is common sense, and you may think it's not necessary to state. But history has proven that it is necessary for me to spell out clearly and specifically. Finally, if your dog likes to sleep on the bed with you, please bring along your dog's favorite clean blanket on which to sleep. It's difficult and very time-consuming to try and get out all the dog fur that gets stuck in the bedding.

I have a large secure storage space that you may use for bikes, etc..

Quiet time is after 11pm and before 7am.

It was great meeting and getting to know Brian! He's a longtime Hood River/Mosier area resident and is very well informed about the area, the history, and the world in general. He was also a very thoughtful, helpful and very cool guy.

Little Man and I had a great stay with Brian, even extended it by a few days. While his place is rustic, it's also very clean, organized, and homey. The bed is comfortable and the room cozy. Brian uses the outside door to get to his room so privacy was not an issue. Brian is a nice guy and he even took me fishing for the first time. His place is a good and affordable option for the area.

Brian is a great host with lots of local knowledge. His place is as described and was perfect for what we needed for our stay. Mosier is a quick 10' drive from Hood River, and there is loads of fun activities to do in the whole area.

The best thing about this place was Brian's concern that I was comfortable in his place. I was scheduled to arrive there right after the train wreck in Mosier and he called me the night before to warn me of the problem and offered to cancel everything. I went there anyway and we made the best of it. I must say if you're looking for a really nice place to vacation this isn't it but if you just need a room it will be fine. You should also know he has a cat, but his cat is really cool. Bottom line the place is OK and Brian is a really good guy with an extra room.

In short: Hostile host, over-priced semi-private room. Check in: no lights on made it really difficult to find the house. I had to write Brian the day of to get check in instructions. House: kind of a run down shack. That's ok, but I couldn't get over how I was paying more money than I charge for a private room, in a nice house, in inner city Portland. Room: Not private. Even though Brian has the option to not walk through the room to get to his, it's expected that he won't. I felt like I couldn't close the door or have any privacy, which didn't feel great considering I was a woman staying in a guys house I don't know. Pets: Was told my dog was fine and he oked him being loose in his yard. My dog was being well-behaved, however, the next day he was checking out the neighbors chicken, to which the neighbor freaked out and yelled at him. Understandable. Even though my dog wouldn't know what to do with a dead chicken laying in front of him, she didn't know that. I immediately called my dog and told Brian I was going to keep him close to me the remainder of our stay. We left for a few hours to hike. When I came back, Brian was fighting with his neighbor. He came up to me, got in my face, and yelled at me about watching me dog. Completely redundant. I hadn't been at the house and had already told Brian I was going to keep him close to me. The hostility shook me and I started not feeling safe. I started packing for my day. He came up to *again* and started going at me, even though at that point I had put my dog in my car to avoid further conflict and nothing new had happened. At that point I didn't care about the fact I had paid for another night, I left. I was shaking and in tears by the time I drove away. I've never had a host scare me like Brian did. If you are a guy, and are in Mosier just looking for a place to sleep while you explore the area, this place is probably fine. I would not recommend this place to women, couples, and people with pets. Speaking as someone who's hosted hundreds of people on Airbnb, I don't think Brian has any business being a host. Do yourself a favor and spend some extra money and stay in Hood River. I ended up paying $120 for 12 uncomfortable hours at Brian's.

Risposta di Brian:
I always want to give a positive recommendation. This time, I just couldn't. A lot of hyperbole from my guest (at my home and neighborhood) here. My place is one of the most affordable (and rustic) AirBnBs in the Gorge. I do not hide this. This guest obviously did not read my (very detailed) advertisement for my place; there are directions to my location and clear descriptions of other details relating to the house condition, layout, and other important aspects in the ad. And there still are (just read it). However, I was still still responsive and able to help her find my place via her phone call. And I was happy to do so. Charisse did not control her dog and thereby let it trespass on the neighbor's property for hours, in a very cavalier manner, I must say, as we had breakfast together. Yes, both of us at the breakfast table while her dog was uncontrolled outside and harassing my neighbor's chickens. The dog was at least 70' away at the neighbors property and obviously not in control, and out of her field of view. That is a fact that my neighbor will confirm, if you so desire a 3rd party opinion (I will provide her phone number, if you don't believe me. I do not lie.). Everything was fine (and she was even talking to me jovially just fine at breakfast), until she let her dog run loose without any supervision for hours and my neighbor informed me of the trespass and harassment (again, check with my pissed off neighbor). I hate to have to get into such details and provide a 3rd opinion, but it is available if you like. I am a very straight shooter and do not bluff. Life is too short for B.S. and drama. Accepting personal responsibility for one's own actions and those of a pet or child is a sign of maturity and self-actualization. Smelling one's own poop is another way to put it. Charisse is clearly not able to do this. Beware.

Brian was very welcoming and friendly. Had no objections to my having little idea as to what time I would show up. Very friendly, and great conversation. In more than just the literal sense, I was welcomed into his home. About the only downside, the guest bed was a bit hard for my old body. It was also a good value.

Brian's place is comfie and cozy and we felt like we were visiting a relative. Really easy going and comfortable. Also, he let me use the couch (in addition to his futon) for my friend -- and it was perfect.

I love the Gorge and most of what it has to offer. This includes windsurfing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, xc-skiing, hunting mushrooms, stalking wildlife, etc. I have an awesome cat who acts like a dog.

I am very open-minded, but experience has shown that religious fanatics can be really annoying and even aggressive sometimes due to generalized intolerance (especially of disagreement). If you are deeply religious yet somehow miraculously able to tolerate disagreement, then you are welcome.
