Descrizione

Myron House is a traditional home restored lovingly to its last detail, nestled in the heart of the Old Town, yet away from the tourist crowds. This three-level home is a perfect place for living like a local, immersed in Chania history and charm.

Myron House is a home in the Old Town of Chania, near the Municipal Market and opposite the historical Byzantine walls, which lead to the Venetian harbor. It is in the area of the knife-makers (maheradika), a historic district, which was comprised of artisans who settled after 1669 and who made the famous traditional Cretan knives. There still can be found one of these workshops today, right on the corner of the street where Myron House is located.
Diagonally across from Myron House there can be found the historical parish church of St. Eleftherios, dated 1636. On the same street, painters and iconographers have resided, (among them the owner of the house, who is a painter), while two English painters are currently living and working in the house across the street.
Myron House is built in the traditional Old Town style of a vertical persuasion, and is comprised of three rooms on three floors, about 30 square meters per floor. The ground floor includes the living room – kitchen – bathroom, the first floor a bedroom with two single beds (open plan, no closing door), and the second floor bedroom, with its double bed, (which is private, as the door closes). The house has a very special style, with its handmade curtains and other items of traditional Greek folk art. The materials (such as bed sheets, curtains, etc. ) are all pure and high quality materials, with an emphasis on quality, offering a unique experience to the visitor, who will feel be able to enjoy and relax in an authentic environment.
Upon request, your host, who is a painter, can organize fast-track courses on drawing and painting.
The house is about 200 years old. Those ages people needed to stay inside the walls of the city to protect themselves from the outside enemies that's why the houses start from the top going downwards.
Aspasia's house was bought in 1983 and was renovated according to the original architecture. Aspasia was studying at Florence University of Fine Arts at the department of painting. Later on she continued her studies at the University of Crete, at the department of History and Archaiology.
This family likes the clean matterials such as metal, wood and has love for antiques.

The sitting room of the first floor was bought with the house. The sofa is made of walnut. The wardrobe belongs to our grandmother, whilst the mirror on the second floor was bought from Aspasia's father in the decade of the '70s, from a tailor in Rethymnon.

All the framed curtains are handmade by Aspasia's mother.

Aspasia lived in this house from 1988 to 2007. During this time she tought students that wanted to pass to the University of Fine Arts and Architecture.
In the past, five painters of icons, used to live in the same street. Nowadays live only the English of the opposite house.

In the summer of 1985, some Turkish people visited us. They used to live here in the past (during the Turkish occupation). They took off their shoes and entered the house with emotion. They explained us that they lived in this house, whilst they had their cheese factory to the opposite side of the street.

If you like this house, please pass a good word to your friends and family. I am sure there are sites that your compatriots trust. Would you be kind to recommend those sites to me too?

Guests have the entire 3-floor house all to themselves!

I will always be available if you have any questions or need my help.

I am a painter and I cherish the traditions of my home town of Chania. I enjoy the history and stories woven around the Old Town of Chania, as well as the special aura that it holds. I have carefully restored my home to the last detail, paying special attention to quality, including family history through my handmade family heirlooms. I hope to get a chance to share it with you!
