This place is ideal for one or two people. Any more than that would be a tight fit. It is small, but still roomy. It is an older style apartment, but had everything I needed! The gas stove was a little scary to use at first (because I've never used a gas one before). But I got the hang of it. Fridge was a decent size, and the filtered water inside was much appreciated. Microwave was easy to use. There is no kettle/teapot/coffeemaker, so I just heated some water up on the stove and bought some Nescafe at the mini mart. There is plenty of pots and pans, cutlery and dinnerware. The bed is a double, just big enough for two. Very comfy! Nice big wardrobe with plenty of hangers to hang clothes, plus a little study nook for your laptop. There's an enormous folding door on the far side of the bedroom which opens out onto a narrow enclosed balcony. You can slide open the windows, and there's 1 washing line and a clothes airer to hang wet clothes on. Not many pegs, but just hanging things without them works fine. No fly screens or netting, but I didn't get bitten once. Maybe because it was winter? Anyway, there are 2 bedside tables with handy power points for charging things, plus numerous other power points around the apartment. Don't bother bringing power adapters from home - THEY WILL BE THE WRONG SHAPE. Buy them from a shopping mall when you get there. The closest is Botafogo Praia. The bathroom is small, with a tiny shower. It is an electric shower, so only 1 tap, which made the hot water a little unpredictable. A few days before I left, the hot water went out completely all of a sudden. No bath, so freezing cold showers for me. The toilet was quite small, so there was a couple of times I had to use a plunger to unblock it. The whole place is very atmospheric and artsy, with lots of cool artwork and photos dotted all over the place. The building itself is old but that only adds to it's charm! The street is busy both day and night, with buses and taxis going by every few seconds. Noise and light is minimal in the apartment when you shut the balcony windows and door. I felt very safe in the neighborhood, even at night. The Catete metro station is only a short stroll (1 block). The mini mart is adjacent to the metro, and stocks all the necessities. On the same street is a bank, pharmacy, and shopping arcade that has a money exchange. Botafogo is about 20mins by metro, Copacabana is about 30mins by metro. WIFI was a bit spotty - kept disconnecting. A very unique place, with a very helpful, friendly and wonderful host!
