We have just returned from a great week in La Rochelle, staying in Claude's lovely apartment. The apartment is perfectly situated in the old town, close to all the historical sites and only a few minutes from the old harbour. Claude was there to meet us on our arrival, with chocolate muffins on the table and beer and water in the fridge. Claude was very welcoming and made us feel we could treat the apartment as a home from home. The apartment is well placed in a very busy part of town, just off some of the main pedestrian areas and overlooking a busy and lively square full of bars. Despite being in this busy area the apartment, on the top floor (three flights of stairs, strong calves needed), offers a place of peace and seclusion after the hustle and bustle of the town. The sun shines in through the windows of the sitting room and kitchen in the morning and into the bedroom in the afternoon and evening, perfect for sitting at the window with a glass of wine looking across the rooftops of La Rochelle. You can enjoy the chatter and hum of the busy square or close the soundproof windows for a moment of peace and quiet. The apartment is well equipped and furnished giving it a nice homely feel. If you want a good base for visiting the town we highly recommend it. Also only a short walk from the most amazing food market. We do recommend, however, that you research car parking as the old town, with it's narrow streets, can be restrictive. There are plenty of car parks, and a free one if you can get a space but make sure you check first. Once again, thank you Claude for a lovely visit to La Rochelle.
