A stunning Frederick Fisher & Partners 500 square foot glass, wood and block house built in 2001 on 24 acres in west Sonoma County. This house is about living simply and minimally in a favored location.
The spectacular and private oasis affords soaring ridgetop-to-ocean views with an immediate raw and natural connection to the land thru meadow and woodland trails designed by Roger Raiche (director UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens) and Dave McCrory of Planet Horticulture. You will experience remarkable, untouched and pristine nature that includes two meandering seasonal creeks and a dramatic double waterfall. The lower property is cradled by Fay Creek and a sandy beach that is easily accessed from the lower hiking trail.
Located on a private road with sweeping ocean vistas and an ancient redwood forest within walking distance. Soil and climate are perfectly balanced in this famous Sonoma Coast AVA that regularly produces world class wines. There are many neighboring vineyards to explore. It is a ten minute drive to the village of Occidental with unique shops and restaurants. A few miles down Bohemian Highway is the Osmosis Day Spa. You are 15 minutes from the coast and 35 minutes from Healdsburg.
The house is equipped with all the modern conveniences including flat screen TV, cable, wifi and speakers for your ipod or iphone. You will be away from it all and completely connected.
The house and land are a perfect getaway for indoor/outdoor living with radiant heat & passive solar orientation. Enjoy the quiet. Walk the trails. Sit on the porch and look at the view. When night falls, experience the depth of the night sky and the Southern Hemisphere constellations.
Dogs are welcome if they weigh less than 35 pounds and are well behaved.
A security/damage deposit of $500 is required. If you cancel your reservation less than 48 hours prior to arrival, a cleaning fee of $100 will be deducted from your refund. Unfortunately wasn't able to stay at the flat but wanted to note that she was very understanding about the cancellation. Thank you
From the moment you drive onto this property you will start to relax. The land/trails are gorgeous and we truly enjoyed every sunrise/sunset/moonrise while we were there. It's very quiet and private, but not too far from the adorable town of Occidental. Carol is a fantastic host and as other reviewers mentioned, she provided enough food for breakfasts. This place is truly magical and I hope we can make it back again someday soon.
The host's description of the house and property matches its reality. But the pictures cannot prepare you for the grandeur of the setting. It is jaw-droppingly beautiful. The house is a transparent gem that opens itself to the landscape by day and the sky by night. The spareness of the house is balm to a cluttered mind. We were so stunned by the place that it took us a while to notice a very good bottle of champagne waiting for us on the counter, along with delicious, healthful snacks. There were enough breakfast fixings to last us a week. Carol was a perfectly responsive and gracious host. Last and not least, the radiant heating was a marvel. We were never cold, especially our feet. I am so glad we found this place. We'll be back.
The Glass House is a place of stillness, comfort and unusual beauty, perfectly nestled in the landscape, with views that will take your breath away. The house is impeccably furnished and equipped down to the last detail. An attentive yet unobtrusive host, Carol had organized everything to make our stay as relaxing as possible. We highly recommend a visit to the Glass House.
Beautiful location and view, nice short local hikes, tasty breakfast treats left for us, comfy space, and such a clear sky at night that we could see the milky way. Just gorgeous.
Carol's house is splendid. We had an amazing weekend lounging on couches, cooking dinner, going for hikes. The hike on her property down to the river below is particularly beautiful. Even the drive up to her property is spectacular! Highly recommended. You won't regret it!
My weekend at the glass house was everything that I'd hoped for ... a beautiful and peaceful setting for a totally relaxed get away. Carol provided very helpful directions to the house, which we found exactly as clean, neat and organized as it appears in the pictures. She had all of the bases covered -- flashlights in handy spots to aid our nighttime arrival, the kitchen stocked with breakfast and drinks/snacks, a detailed guide to the house, property and surrounding area, etc. -- and she responded very quickly to my questions beforehand about what was and wasn't there. I'm already trying to think of excuses to make a trip back to the glass house as soon as I can ... thanks Carol!
This place was perfect. Not much more to say than that.
My wife and I recently stayed at Carol's amazing house - we absolutely loved it. The views are spectacular, and we enjoyed venturing through the entire property. Carol does a fantastic job of making you feel at home and goes the extra mile to make sure you enjoy everything the area has to offer. We can't wait to go back. Thanks Carol!
This an architectural treasure on a remote ridge, but not so far from civilization that you can't get a great meal a few minutes away. The combination of total privacy and fantastic landscape unfurling into the distance is enchanting. Most of our time there, we spent moving around from one corner to another delighting in the details and proportions of this gem as the sun traveled from one side to the other. And when it got too hot, the coast was not too far away. We never met Carol, but felt privileged that she let us and our dog into her home. I will recommend this highly to my most choosy friends.
