In the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, only 7 miles from the world heritage site of Saint Emilion, lies the rural village of Pujols-sur-Dordogne. Relax and rest in the space and comfort of this classic Girondine farmhouse & grounds.
This 1861 farm house has been lovingly renovated since 1996 by local artisans. The two spacious bedrooms, one on the ground floor, the other upstairs, both with adjoining full bathroom, can offer two couples privacy and comfort; additional arrangements are available to sleep up to 8 people. The other rooms are all equally generously proportioned: the country kitchen has a cook-in fireplace and ample dining space as well as all “mod cons”. The ground floor living room opens onto a sheltered garden terrace featuring a rare octagonal well, while the large upstairs family room houses the television/ DVD corner, additional sleeping areas for up to three, and its own delightful balcony, the ideal spot to sit and enjoy the vineyard views. In winter, the house has central heating, while the wide kitchen fireplace and wood-burning stove in the living room provide cozy comfort. In summer, the thick stone walls and upstairs ceiling fans keep the house cool. The parking area easily accommodates three cars.
Please note the minimum rental is ONE WEEK. Guests can use the full house, terraces and garden. The inside of the barn and one small storage space are off limits. Guests can walk in the vineyards as long as they don't pick grapes!

Pujols-sur-Dordogne – The village on the hill, 6km from the Dordogne river, was the northernmost outpost of the Dukes of Duras until the French Revolution. Their castle is now the town hall with a spectacular view. Visit also the 16th century church. Walking, hikes, kayaking on the Dordogne, biking, and fresh air are all available!
Castillon-la-Bataille: only 6 km from Pujols, this is the town where the last battle of the Hundred Years’ War between the French and English was fought – and lost by the English. In July and August, enjoy heraldry and horsemanship at the open air reenactment. All year, browse the Monday market for your food and local products. Castillon has a range of shops and supermarkets, as well as several bistros, bakeries and pastry shops, and even a cell phone store.
The fabled estates of Saint Emilion and Pomerol, Bordeaux’s up-and-coming “Right Bank” whose great names (Petrus, Ausone, Cheval Blanc…) rival the finest crus of the Médoc, also within easy visiting distance. Saint Emilion is a lovely historic town with a wealth of restaurants. Don’t miss discovering the fine wines of the Côtes de Castillon appellation, which neighbors Saint Emilion but at much more reasonable prices!
For a day driving tour, go east to the Lascaux Caves, Sarlat, Domme, and all the other wonders of the Dordogne valley, an opportunity to visit the large town of Bergerac and the award winning village of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande.
For city life, visit Bordeaux– one of the five great cities of France or go south to Toulouse, home of the family of Toulouse-Lautrec!
And at least once, indulge yourself at Le Belvedere, in Juillac overlooking Pessac-sur-Dordogne. Owner/chef Michel Pestel is a “Maitre Restaurateur” and Le Belvedere is certified as a “Cuisinerie Gourmande”, definitely the best restaurant in the area. Great food and wine with seasonal specialties such as duck, sturgeon, lamprey in wine sauce, and five-course tasting menus, with attentive service and a stunning view over the Dordogne river-valley from its summer terrace

An international public health expert who has been restoring this house and garden since 1996, bringing art and textiles from all over the world. The beauty and space of rural France, the wine, the architecture, the potential for great gardening, the people and the history keep me here and bring me back, wherever my job takes me.
