Harry's place was advertised. He was also exceptionally responsive to the one problem we had (Wifi), going out of his way to find a solution. Regarding the dogs, I didn't have a problem with barking, though the were inside the (separate) house most of the time. The poop in the yard, which you do have to walk across, is an unfortunate blemish on the record, though. Overall, a good quite, comfortable experience.

Harry made us feel very welcome. In fact, this was our second stay at his apartment. Neighborhood is very convenient for coffee shops, restaurants, the Menil, Rothko Chapel, etc. We recommend Harry's place for people who want to enjoy walkable Houston.

We needed a place to stay for a week until our new house was ready to move into. Harry's apartment was perfect. He met us upon arrival, walked us through the apartment and even gave us some great suggestions for places to visit around the area. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and very close to a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and a few parks. While there is only one bedroom, there was still plenty of room for my husband and I, and our 8 month old in a Pack and Play. We would stay again if we needed to!

Let me preface this by saying that I use AirBNB pretty frequently, and I've NEVER left a less-than stellar review. This is the first. It all started well enough -- Harry was extremely accommodating when we arrived, he showed us around the apartment, gave us some good recommendations for restaurants nearby and pretty much was hands off during our one-week stay (which we were fine with, since I was there recovering from a pretty major surgery). The apartment, however, left much to be desired. If "charming" is a euphemism for "old and run-down," then the description of the apartment hit the nail on the head. The place was not well maintained: (1) it clearly had not been professionally cleaned before we arrived and was actually rather dirty (think dusty floors, stained furniture and unclean plates); (2) the bathroom door did not close and the doorknob fell off twice so my husband took it upon himself to fix it; and (3) the electrical circuitry was wonky, causing the overhead lights to go on and off and, eventually, to short all together. The worst part, though, was coming in and out of the place. The apartment is in the back of Harry's house, where he lives with two (very cute) dogs and his family. Getting to the apartment requires opening the front gate, walking across the front yard and down the driveway. Of course this is all fine in theory, but in practice not so much. The front yard is covered is dog poop, so if you're walking in after dark you're bound to step in it unless you bring a flashlight with you. This is not okay -- if you require your guests to walk across your lawn to get to the rental, the least you can do is clean up the dog poop. Moreover, every time you walk into or out of the rental, Harry's dogs begin to bark (understandably), causing (who I assume is) Harry's wife (she never introduced herself) to start screaming at them at the top of her lungs to "shut the fuck up." This happens LITERALLY every time you walk into or out of the rental. The worst incident was when some friends of ours (who came to Houston to visit me after my surgery and were staying at an AirBNB nearby) came to visit with their one-year-old son at 4 p.m. The baby was acting fussy (I'm not talking screaming baby, I'm talking whimpering baby), so our friend was pushing the stroller around the driveway to get him to quiet down. Harry's dogs inevitably barked, and his wife, I kid you not, screamed out the window: "stop walking down my fucking driveway!!!!" Guess what -- if you have dogs that bark every time someone walks by the house and that pisses you off and you want to scream at them, that is absolutely your right. But then don't rent out your back apartment. Simple as that. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
