Stay at Bachuil Country House to enjoy all that the stunning island of Lismore has to offer, from cycling to birdwatching. Just a short ferry from Oban, we offer AA 4* Guest Accommodation for up to 6 guests in 3 comfortable en-suite rooms.

L'alloggio

Hospitality has been a feature at Bachuil for centuries – it is in our blood. On arrival guests will be welcomed and have a chance to relax in the garden or drawing room. Our bedrooms are comfortably furnished and all include en-suite facilities and free wi-fi access. After a sound nights sleep, we hope you will enjoy a good breakfast, provided in part by our own hens.

Dining Options
Evening meals on Lismore. The cafe is open for evening meals on Thursday evening and a Fish and Chip van offering a varied menu has started on the island that does evening meals and takes orders. This is open every evening until at least 7pm.

It is possible to leave the island from the north end on the Port Appin Ferry (the foot passenger ferry – 10 minutes, probably taking the 6.20 from Lismore) to dine at either Airds Hotel or the Pier House. Both are very good for fish and seafood which we don't do here as Niall is allergic to fish! There are later ferries on Fridays and Saturdays and an 8pm every night in the Summer months.

For gastro diners there are several restaurants with an international reputation in and around Port Appin. Eating ‘ashore’ in the early evenings is feasible midweek from April to the end of October as you can get a 5 or 6 pm ferry and return from Port Appin at 8pm.

Interazione con gli ospiti

We interact with our guests on a personal level. We are always here to welcome guests and we often join our guests for dinner in the evening if they would like our company. Niall is very knowledgeable about the island as his family has been here since 562 AD - and always has good suggestions about what to see and do! He is the Coarb (successor) of St Moluag, Abbot of Lismore and is also Chief of Clan MacLea (anglicised as Livingstone). He holds the Bachuil Mor, the crozier of St Moluag, as the symbol of his office.

Altre cose da evidenziare

We strongly encourage people to come for 2 nights. There is so much to see and do here and the travelling involved with getting here to an island, one night is NOT enough!

Please note the price quoted is PER ROOM.

Anita and Niall live on a beautiful small island that is not far from the mainland but is a glimpse of life in another era. Anita was very friendly and helpful. They have all the amenities of wifi, hot showers, a cozy bed etc. However, what made this visit memorable was learning a bit of the history of the island, the house, and Niall's heritage as chief... amazing! We appreciated his taking the time to share a fragment of his story.

Anita and Niall went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. The Island of Lismore is a special place and these are special people who went out of their way to make us feel like family. We loved the quiet and peace of the location. We came to Scotland for the famous beauty of the mountains, thinking that Lismore would be an interesting hub for our adventures, but we were surprised that Lismore itself has its own beauty and adventures and for a small island, we feel it was worth the trip just for itself. There is more here than you realize, and definitely worth the trip with bicycles if possible.

Our time on Lismore at Bachuil was simply wonderful. We didn't know what to expect and were first drawn to Bachuil with the chance to stay in a farmhouse, rich in history , removed from the mainland and away from towns and cities. Sandra and I read the reviews, looked at the photos and maps of the island and decided that Lismore could be a great adventure-and it was for us. Anita and Niall are warm-hearted, generous people. You feel at ease with them immediately as your are treated as important guests who matter-not just lodgers. Their suggestions for walks, hikes, where to picnic and what sights to visit exceeded our expectations;every day. Often and sometimes every few hours we would be mesmerized by the landscape, the historical points and the ocean. Meals were exceptional and conversations lively and and friendly when we sat together. Niall and Anita are genuine and professional in their demeanor and impart an ease and inviting manner that friends have. The house is a treasure hold for history and it you feel like "royalty". The rooms also had their charm. We took our hosts advice and truly explored the island. There's something around every turn that catches your emotions. The people we met on Lismore couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. " Service" went beyond the norm. If you are looking for a real/ change/escape or "re-boot" we'd recommend Bachuil in a heartbeat. Anita and Niall thanks again. with fondness Sandy and Alex

Bachuil is the home of the Barons of Bachuil, Coarbs of St Moluag, Abbots of Lismore, and Chiefs of Clan Maclea who have lived here since St Moluag arrived in 562. Niall and Anita, the present Baron and Baroness, really look forward to seeing you!
