I agree this was an unfortunate event. We have always had the house professionally cleaned, and it was in fact cleaned the day you checked in. Even with regular cleaning, having a mouse find their way into a house happens sometimes in Colorado as I’m sure it does in California where you are from. We worked to remedy the situation right away and we also let you out of the remainder of your stay so you could find a place where you felt more comfortable. The professional pest control company stated in their report that “based on the minor amount of droppings I found in the house, I would not call it an infestation, more of a minor influx of mice, which is highly common year round in Colorado.” The house has been fully cleaned and mitigated by the pest control company and there have been no further signs of mice. We will also have future monitoring done by the pest control company to be sure everything remains clear.
I also made phone calls that week to the Department of Wildlife and the Department of Health. The information I received during those conversations as well as the conversations with the pest control company, is that deer mice are very uncommon in the area of the house and that hantavirus is very rare for our county. There has only been one case in our county during the last 11 years, and it’s caused by the moving of larger amounts of mice droppings. I’m only saying this to offer some reassurance to you regarding your and your families’ health.
Your experience with Airbnb is also unfortunate and I want you to know that I’ve filled formal complaints with how this whole thing was handled. However, I don’t have any control over their customer service.
While we do certainly regret you had this experience, we did work to have it remedied right away, let you out of the remainder of your stay, and tried to work with you in this situation. I hope you enjoyed the remaining 6 days you had in Colorado.
