Charles’ and Randall’s home and garden are a pure delight to visit. My only regret is that I could only spend one night there—not nearly enough time to enjoy all the relaxing possibilities these charming gentlemen offer their guests. Every room is exquisitely curated, every surface covered with intriguing paintings, books, and objects d’art. Yet this home is also very comfortable and well lived in—guests are made to feel at home sharing these lovely spaces with other guests and with the hosts. The front and back outdoor areas are exceptionally inviting. Charles’ koi pond is soothing, and the shade of his gigantic banana trees is not what one expects in a Kentucky backyard! There is one unusual feature I especially enjoyed. The bathroom—lighted by a crystal chandelier and stocked with fluffy white oversized towels--offered an impressive array of luxurious spa products to sample: fun and fragrant shampoos, creams, lotions, and bath salts to make bathing an especially pleasurable (and memorable) experience. (Two first floor guest rooms share a full and a half bath, but that was not a problem for me, and I usually prefer a private bath.) If you appreciate the attentions of canine and feline hosts, you’ll be made to feel welcome. The neighborhood is beautiful—an authentic taste of Louisville’s gracious and charming residential architecture with services nearby, and the location is super-easy to find, near many places you might want to visit, and just a few minutes off a major freeway with easy east-west and north-south connections. All in all, this is an ideal home to visit, with gracious hosts to make your stay very pleasant.
