L'alloggio

A favorite room for many over time, this lovely room really does seem to warmly embrace you when you enter. It's cozy enough without being teeny & gracious enough without being stuffy. It has a nice bright private bathroom with a very good shower & tub and a gas fireplace to keep cozy on cold winter month nights.
This Historic Queen Anne Victorian has original lacework & wraparound porch has 4 footprints dating back to 1839 and has been lovingly and tastefully added onto by each of the former residents preserving it's Landmark status. The woodworking is remarkable and the wood is rare and beautiful ~ including clear chestnut, blistered poplar, black walnut, cherry, white oak and heartpine ~ gracing walls, floors, ceilings, 6 fireplaces, stairs & rails. And it's for sale, too! Inquire within.

Accesso ospiti

There is a separate entrance for guests. Breakfast items such as oatmeal, breakfast bars, fresh fruit, reverse osmosis water, coffee & tea will be available in the hallway between rooms. There will be a small refrigerator to store a few favorite items you might want to bring from home, plus a microwave, toaster oven & coffee maker. If you want a full cooked breakfast, that can usually be arranged: for an extra $15/person a hearty breakfast made with mostly organic ingredients will be served in your room or in the dining room downstairs. Ample notice (48hrs preferred) must be given for that option. Washer & dryer is available if you are staying more than 5 days.

Your schedule will be your own while staying here. We value your privacy and also ours! :) We'll most likely be here to greet you while you check in and show you around. We assume that you'll have your trip planned, but if it's wide open, we'll be happy to give you some suggestions of places to visit and see while your here ~ it all depends on you! Art galleries? Hiking? Driving? Sightseeing? Shopping? Fishing? Art Galleries? White Water Rafting? Lazy River tubing? Ziplining? Nightlife? Entertainment? Good Eateries? Golfing or even Skiing!
Let us know what it is you like to do and we'll do our best to guide you to the right place to find that ~ a concierge of sorts. Check out the ever expanding guidebook I've created for you.

Altre cose da evidenziare

These mountains are home to many productive Artists & twice a year, many of them open up their studios to the public ~ Locally, it's the TRAC Studio Tour of which I participate in & join a neighboring studio about 5 minutes from the house. It's always fun visiting the artists private space when their expecting you! Great to see the 'behind the scenes' of many of the pieces you might see in the local galleries. Great people, very good art, in a really beautiful area!

We ask for a minimum 2 night stay on weekends but are flexible during the week.

New Rules! ;~) But seriously folks ~ please abide by the following:

#1 This is a non-smoking household. We understand the desire to puff, but please ~ No smoking inside! We do, however have an ashtray on the covered wraparound porch in front ~ please use it if you do. Thank You!

#2 We have a sweet and spunky long haired Jack Russell named Rascal... He loves to run like the wind, so PLEASE don't let him out :) He has his own yard to run around in that's a lot more safe. Sorry that your dog is not allowed to come & play with him. It might be fine, but we just don't want to chance any accidents, so that's why the 'No Pets' rule here.

#3 Never leave the gas fireplaces or space heaters on when you leave the room or overnight! The gas fireplaces are pretty much for ambience only… They are vented as per code so the heat goes right out the chimney… It might take the chill off the room and look nice but it would be very expensive to run it the whole time you're there. I ask that you please limit your use to a half an hour before you go to sleep and a half an hour when you wake up. Otherwise, it would not only cost more than your stay in energy bills, but be dangerous for everybody in the house. I know the rooms can get a bit chilly at night, but there are plenty of blankets and high grade insulating curtains to minimize the chill. You can feel free to let me know when you're coming home from your day out & I'll be happy to take the chill off the room for you & turn on the porch lights! The space heaters have a thermostat setting which is okay to turn down ~ maximum setting overnight should be no higher than medium. Best to cuddle up & let your body heat do the job :)

Please turn off ALL appliances when you leave the room ~ A/C unit, fans, lights, etc. It's super inefficient and costly to do that. I prefer the warm light of incandescent lighting ~ but in the warmer months it is unfortunately not only warm to look at but it also will contribute to heating the room. Also, the roof is metal and the porch roof is right under your window. Closing the curtains and turning the lights off will definitely keep your room cooler. Let me know when you're on your way home and if here, I will be happy to turn your AC on. It only takes a few minutes to cool the room.

#4 Enjoy Your Stay!!!

#5 I know you want us to remember you, but I promise you, we will! You don't have to leave a piece of yourself behind. I'd say around 80% of guests leave *something* behind in the room. Take a second and even a third look around before you leave.

Happy trails to you!!! I hope we meet again ~~~

Love Always, Judy

We had a lovely stay at the Purple Orchid for our anniversary trip. The home is so interesting with so much history, really unique woodwork and artisan touches. Our room was so comfy and had everything we needed. Judy was helpful and recommended many of the areas attractions and restaurants. She even had a bouquet of wildflowers in our room from her garden. Thanks again for making our trip so special!

Judy was the most accurate and delightful host. This was a true BnB experience with a 3 course Vegan breakfast and fresh squeezed juice and pressed brewed coffee! The 6 sided room was stunning! The bath, bed and comfort were AAA rating. The private bath, complete with plush towels and toiletries, made for a home spun comfort. This was just an outstanding luxury and the walking historic tour of the house, given by Judy, completes the experience. I can't wait to get back and sit on the front porch , see the fall colors while sipping on spice cider and pumpkin pie muffins. You will walk away wishing you had stayed longer. Too short, too beautiful to not return. I will be back!

I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. This was my first solo trip and I was in town for a friend's wedding. Judy not only provided a clean, comfortable place to stay, but took me under her wing and gave me a friend during my stay. The house and grounds are gorgeous. Dreamy, really. I didn't want to leave. Judy is very kind and thoughtful and puts a lot of work into making sure your stay is exceptional. Mine certainly was. Another reviewer said the pictures and description don't do it justice and I whole-heartedly agree. My stay was perfect, I couldn't have asked for anything better. The location was very easily accessible and was close to town in either direction. Asheville was only a short drive away (30 min) and I really enjoyed Burnsville, which is even closer. My room was cozy, comfortable and honestly like something out of a magazine. Judy is very detail oriented and creative. When I came back home, I couldn't even sleep in my bed. I'm purchasing a new mattress because I slept so well during my stay with her. There are a few things you have to keep in mind to make sure the temperature is comfortable in your room, but they are simple and Judy explains them well. All in all, I would buy the house if I could, and Judy and her dog are now dear friends. If in the area, I would definitely stay with her again.

The photos do not do this place justice. This is by far one of my favorite experiences on airbnb. Judy is an amazing host who offered great suggestions on food, places to visit not to mention the communication with her. Her responses were very speedy and she was completely understanding when we got a little lost on the way. This house has so much history and I felt very fortunate to have stayed in such a wonderful space. Her dog was also really friendly and as two artist we really appreciated the attention to craftsmanship and detail in both the exterior and interior. The room we stayed in was super cozy and we had a view of the mountains which made waking up every morning feel like a dream. Thank you Judy, we can't express enough just how amazing this experience was for us! We highly recommend this place.

Our stay at Judy's home was wonderful! We were making a trip to Asheville for our anniversay and decided to stay outside the city. This location was just about a half hour from the city and easy to get to and from. Judy has excellent recommendations for places to eat in the immediate area, as we got in a bit late our 1st night and decided to not venture into Asheville. Another wonderful thing about the accommodations is that Judy has a small fridge, toaster oven, coffee maker (with a selection of coffees) for guest use right outside the room. She also offers a home cooked breakfast which we chose to enjoy....and boy did we! It was delicious! As for the (URL HIDDEN) is a piece of history and Judy shared the history with us, xxwhich was very interesting and made our stay even more special! Judy is a wonderful host and made sure we had everything we needed. She even made sure the lights were on and our room was a comfortable temperature when we returned each night. We definitely recommend Judy's to anyone looking for a home away from home!

Judy is a gracious most helpful host and her place is a charming delightful old Victorian with beautiful woodwork, a very comfortable bed, and a cute well behaved Jack Russell Terrier. Coffee, cereal and tasty cookies were also provided. A most elegant stay.

Originally from Bucks County PA, I've lived in WNC since 2002 and a few other beautiful parts of the country before that; the mountains of Colorado, southern NJ near Cape May. I really enjoy B&B guests ~ certainly the most interesting and appreciative folks… so many great stories ~ I have old handmade paper journals filled with smile making memories, and now sweet reviews are filling up the pages of this virtual journal at Airbnb. :)

I'll be happy to help you with your plans while you're here. If you want, I'll share maps of the area & highlight things you might like ~ good hikes, vistas & waterfalls, drives, eateries, entertainment, art galleries/studios, etc.
