Private room in main house, queen bed, shared kitchen and shared bathroom. A quiet and peaceful refuge for a retreat of any kind and duration. Located directly on the Great Smoky Mountain National park we invite you to explore its pristine wilderness and extensive trails. The Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site – the third largest rain forest in the world, largest deciduous one with extreme biodiversity. It’s a 20 minute drive from Maryville and 45 minutes from Knoxville. This is the home of a University of Tennessee Professor who specializes in linguistics, with an emphasis on preserving indigenous peoples' sign language. The main living room also doubles as a meditation room in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and our guests are free to use that space. There are many books to read and comfortable places to sit. We have one very friendly black lab, trained to stay outside on the porch in a nice and warm dog house. Note: This is a fairly remote mountain location. The closest amenities are a 20-minute drive away and there is no cell phone service within 2 miles of this destination. Wi-Fi is via satellite – not high speed, but can be used to check email and message via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). No video, audio-streaming, or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)ing. There is a Mac computer and phone available to check email and for local and nation-wide calls. This is a relatively off the grid location.

As stated above, this is a fairly remote mountain location. We will send you more detailed directions upon booking and you can easily find the place with GPS or Smart Phone. The roads are very well maintained, but steep and curvy. The closest amenities are 20 minute drive away and there is no cell phone service within 2 miles of this destination. The city of Maryville and regional airport are 30 minutes away. Wi-Fi is available via satellite – not high speed, but can be used to check email and message via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). No video or audio-streaming. The house phone is available for local and nation-wide calls. The living room of the house also serves as meditation room, which you are free to use. You can use the kitchen and store food in fridge -- we simply ask that you wash your own dishes and cooking utensils.

The homeowner is Jeffrey, who is usually here to greet you. He is also a professor of anthropology and linguistics at the University of Tennessee. You will receive his phone number when you book and you can contact him anytime for directions or if you have any questions.

As stated above, the property is located on one-hundred acres directly on the Great Smoky Mountain National Park -- a UNESCO World Heritage site, the third largest rain forest in the world, largest deciduous one with extreme biodiversity. We invite you to explore its pristine wilderness and extensive trails. It’s a 20 minute drive from Maryville, 30 minutes to airport, and 45 minutes from Knoxville. We are only a few miles from Highway 129 (aka the Dragon) and to North Carolina.

This is a fairly remote location, so plan accordingly. Nearest services 20 minutes away. Our roads are very well maintained, although steep & curvy. You do not need 4-wheel drive, unless there's a winter storm, which is rare. We are located near many major hiking trails and to stunning scenic overviews. Surrounded by the national forest and park.

We have maps and guide books to nearby hiking trails and local attractions. Jeff or his designee will be happy to give you directions and guidance. Very important to download the directions to Smart Phone or similar device before heading up the mountain as no cell phone service for a couple of miles around this location.

Welcome!
-You can use the kitchen and guest bathroom inside the main house. There is a fully equipped kitchen, so feel free to use our kitchen to cook your meals, but remember to wash your own dishes and to clean up after yourself; also, if you cook and have garbage, we have trash bags for you to use. Upon departure, please take any garbage with you, as commercial garbage service is not available in this remote/mountain location.
-You can use one of the refrigerators located on the porch or inside the house to store your food; we will mark one of the shelves with your name, so easy to identify.
-The main living room/common area of the house also serves as a meditation room in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Feel free to sit & read in that space or use the porch, which has a swing, chairs, and great views!
- You may be greeted by our very friendly black lab, named Tashi, who is well trained as an outside dog and loves visitors. He knows to sit and to stay outside and has a very nice and comfortable outdoor doghouse.
- Please remove your shoes as you enter the main house -- we have a shoe rack to the left of the door as you enter.
-Let us know if there's anything else that you need of if any questions.
-You may send us a message if you have a child or pet. This is a remote mountain location, so children or pets would need constant supervision.
-Smoking is not allowed inside or around the house.
Thank you for booking with us! We hope you enjoy your stay!
