Within walking distance to downtown Santa Fe, this historic REAL adobe house is the epitome of Santa Fe charm. It provides a comfortable home away from home for you to explore what this great historic city has to offer.

The unit is perfectly located for visitors on Don Gaspar Avenue within walking distance to the Plaza, the Railyard, Canyon Rd. and half a block from the State Capitol rotunda.

The apartment is a territorial adobe set in a historical house built when Santa Fe was a part of Mexico in the mid 1800's and retains many original features. My family has lived in this property since 1952. This REAL adobe unit is cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter

The apartment comprises a large open plan front room, one bedroom with a separate 3/4 bathroom suitable for a single person with a separate shower. A full bathroom with a historical bathtub is accessible through the corridor/hallway with shelving. The front room has a comfortable additional bed, made of a Shikibuton trifold foam mattresses, which can be also be transformed into two twin beds or a king size bed.

The small kitchen contains a gas stove and a clothes washer/dryer. The dining room is in the adjacent room. The kitchen/dining room has full amenities with a table for 4. There is another table in the front room by a large picture window which can be used for dining as well or as a work space.

The apartment can comfortably accommodate 4 people with the bathroom in the adjoining corridor. This vacation rental is better suited for a single person, couple or small family.

This unit is listed as a separate one for fewer people or can be combined with my other listing as an entire, whole house for larger parties or more space. (Please see my other listings on the same house property on my profile page by clicking twice on my name.) This apartment is NOT available when the entire house is rented and visa versa.

The apartment is totally self-contained with access to a front and back porch. The back bedroom has an exit to the back porch, which may be shared with the guests in the adjoining unit. Parking is available for 2 cars near the front entrance on the property for this unit.

This unit is listed as a separate one for fewer people or can be combined with my other listing as an entire, whole house/whole first floor, for larger parties or more space. (Please see my other listings on the same property on my profile page for more details by clicking twice on my name. I have now added a "Cozy Studio Downtown by the Capitol" on the same house property, which is the 4th listing, sleeping up to two people.) This sweet historic 1200 sq.ft. adobe unit is NOT available when the entire 1st floor, 2400 sq.ft., is rented and visa versa. In other words this is a home with 2 units side by side separated by adjoining doors, which are opened when the whole first floor of the house is rented. Please note that when both units are occupied, you can sometimes hear your neighbors. Therefore, quiet time is necessary after 10:00pm.

As a native Santa Fean, I can provide any information on dining, shopping, local attractions, events and local history you may need. I can provide guided historical tours of downtown Santa Fe as well. I love to interact with my guests and would be happy to give you a tour around town. We could have coffee or lunch together or share beer/wine on our patio with my German husband, Eduard, when available. Just ask me a.s.a.p. when you arrive or before, so I can plan for it ahead of time. Also, I give my guests who prefer privacy -- space, but we are here in the separate apartment upstairs when needed.

Don Gaspar Ave. is located in one of the best and most beautiful neighborhoods in old Santa Fe. It is also one of the safest places to live. Bandelier once resided in this house until he built a bigger one on Canyon Road. In the sixties, only families occupied the homes on this street, which was near schools, shopping, etc. Now the block is in a commercial district, which means it is near where the action is on weekdays and quiet on the weekends.

Shopping, food are all within walking distance. The Railrunner and bus systems are nearby, but actually you don't need a car in this area.

Our gentle Collie in the backyard has sadly passed away, so there is now access to the back porch. Just finished a courtyard with outside furniture on the south side as well.

Since this is a historical home, I want to let you know the sinks are kind of low, in case you have severe back problems and the shower cabin is not wide. Also, in the Winter we have forced air heating, which a light sleeper may hear. Especially during the high season, when the next door apartment is also occupied, you can sometimes hear your neighbors, so we ask for quiet time after 10:00 pm.

We live in the separate apartment upstairs and will be close by, if you should need anything. Please communicate with me via phone or e-mail messaging through Airbnb. Sorry, I don't text.

Thank you, Virginia

Renate, I love that you wrote the review in Italian since you live in Italy now. You are so literate in Italian even though you are German. I can understand most of the review, because I speak Spanish and the two languages are somewhat similar. Hope we get more Italian and German guests like you in the future. Eduard, who is German, and I really enjoyed communicating with you in English and also in German. Eduard was especially happy to be able to converse with a fellow German soul (as you so nicely put it). You and your family were such wonderful guests and we would be delighted if you could return someday and stay longer. Vielen Dank and ich soll schoene Gruesse von Eduard ausrichten. Virginia

Virginia's home was just lovely! A charming, historic unit in the heart of Santa Fe and exactly as described. Her kindness was excellent (she left us a bottle of wine and even invited us to her birthday celebration)! Would highly recommend her place and would stay here again if coming through. Virginia's apartment was just what we were looking for, cozy and convenient for a weekend conference. The kitchen is well equipped, the furniture is comfortable, and the apartment has many fun brochures and other information about things to do in and around Santa Fe. Virginia was an attentive and excellent host. I would definitely recommend!

Virginia's apartment looked too good to be true when we saw the pictures, description and price here, but in actuality it was even better than we hoped for. We loved staying in the historic adobe home in an actual neighborhood, and being able to walk through that neighborhood for groceries and coffee. And we loved how easy it was to walk from here through the state capital area to downtown restaurants and shopping, and to the nearby galleries. And we loved the comforts of the space itself, and that Virginia had thought of everything we might need--kitchenware, dishes, linens, off-street parking, shampoo and soap, information about the area, a welcoming bottle of wine and chocolates, well positioned bedside lamps, and even emergency toiletries (which we did not use but were glad were there). We were very sad to leave and hope that we can stay here again.

Comfortable historical home a quick walk to plaza and other must see sites. Pretty outside patio for relaxing with a glass of wine after a day of exploring. Gracious hosts. Good value. I highly recommend Virginia's home.

This property is in a great location as it is an easy walk to old town. There was a last minute change and we ended up staying in a different unit within the same house. So I cannot speak to this exact listing, however, after reading the listing for the property we did stay in I can say that Virginia is very accurate in her description of the home. It is old and there are quirks, but they are well outlined. You will find no surprises here. Virgina was a warm and welcoming host and communicated well. We ended up arriving a few hours earlier than originally planned and she was very accommodating.

Born and bred in Santa Fe, my family has been here since 1598. I'm a retired teacher, a licensed massage therapist and esthetician. I'm trilingual, fluent in Spanish and German as well. My husband, Eduard, was an attorney from Munich, Germany. I am very knowledgeable about the local history and can offer guided historical tours of Santa Fe. I also run a mini-spa on the property. I would be very glad to help you make the most of your visit in Santa Fe.
