Our home is located in one of Vancouver's finest Edwardian apartment houses, a treasured vestige of British Columbia's colonial past. We are situated just above the lively waterfront promenade in Coal Harbour, a short stroll from the Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancouver Art Gallery, Robson Street, the central business district, and the entrance to Stanley Park; and only a few minutes farther to the Vancouver Aquarium, English Bay, Chinatown, Gastown, and Vancouver's colourful Davie Street gay village.
It would be hard to find a better location for your Vancouver visit. (The Shangri-La hotel chain certainly likes the neighbourhood — it built its five-star luxury hotel tower half a block away. The brand new Trump International Hotel and Tower is even closer.)
While Vancouver is charging full steam ahead — its white-hot real estate market is one of the world's most successful — your private room is a snug and peaceful retreat. It overlooks a fountain courtyard ringed with mature magnolia and cherry trees. There is a piano in your room, for whenever musical inspiration strikes. And the apartment comes complete with a kindly and well-mannered six-year-old English mastiff; a giant puppy whose friendly 'hellos' have made him a neighbourhood celebrity.
Amenities include a brand new pillow-top double bed, adjacent bathroom with an over-sized claw-foot bathtub and shower, WiFi, and use of the flat's large drawing room, 3,000-volume library, and dining room.

• a moderate amount of storage space, in the form of empty shelves and an armoire in the bedroom
• the bathroom is immediately adjacent to the guest room and is reserved for your exclusive use; it features full-velocity water flow, an over-sized clawfoot bathtub and shower, and an electrical outlet equipped with a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)
• described as snug and cozy in the listing, the guest room is indeed compact. The overall dimensions are 8 feet x 13 feet, but the ceiling is very tall, nearly 11 feet, and the window that looks out onto the courtyard full of magnolia and cherry trees is huge
• guests are encouraged to make themselves at home by using the other rooms in the flat, including the drawing room, library and dining room (with caveats to please use coasters on all wooden surfaces and to refrain from eating anything in the drawing room), to browse the thousands of books, and to ask as many questions as you like about any object, piece of furniture or work of art that catches your fancy
• I do not provide breakfast, beyond coffee and tea; but there are numerous high-quality food stores within a couple of blocks (including a Whole Foods and two Urban Fares). Guests are welcome to use the fridge for provisions on the understanding that the kitchen is NOT available for anything more than light use (i.e. cold breakfasts, soup, sandwiches).
• there is free high-speed WiFi throughout the flat (but no cable TV)
• guests have their own set of keys, and are welcome to come and go as they please
• there is a laundry room in the basement of the apartment building, with coin-operated machines.
• as you will see from the pictures, I do have one of the world's biggest and sweetest dogs. Hugo the English mastiff is a giant marshmallow, but he is really *present*, and you will frequently find him snoozing in corridors and athwart various doorways. Luckily, he never minds being stepped over.
This is my full-time home, so I am in residence during all guest visits. Beyond that, I let my guests take the lead in terms of how much interaction they would like.
One of the great pleasures of Airbnb hosting is meeting people from every corner of the world; but the best innkeepers, like the best butlers, know exactly when to make themselves scarce.
Coal Harbour, once a muddy dockland, has become Vancouver's superstar neighbourhood, with rank after rank of ultra-luxury condominium towers marching down toward the blue harbour and its leafy promenade. The area features a multitude of restaurants and cocktail lounges, bordered to the south by Robson Street with many dozens more.
The apartment is within easy walking distance of all parts of Vancouver's downtown core. A major transit node (Burrard Station) is five minutes' walk, providing access to every part of the Lower Mainland; and a bus stop for the sights on the North Shore (including Grouse Mountain, Cypress Bowl, and Capilano Canyon) is literally at the front door.
Basically, we subscribe to the innkeeper's version of the Golden Rule: Do unto our home as you would have us do unto yours.
Check-in is any time after 2pm. There may be some flexibility with this, depending on the schedule of the guests before you. If you expect to arrive before 2pm please let me know in advance; at the very least, I can look after your bags until the room is ready.
Check-out is 10am. As with check-in there may be some flexibility, and I will gladly keep your bags for the day if you are catching a later flight.
The minimum stay is two nights (except for the off-season, December to February).

Michael and Hugo are so kind host and prepare so many tiny touching things to us. We've got a lot of useful suggestions about city tour, such as restaurant recommend and transfer information. Michael is a truly gentleman and always think of guest, we love to live here, it has a lovely homely feel to it.
My husband & I stayed with Michael for 5 days in February, and had a great time.
In our opinion, Michael is the #1 reason for staying here, although the apartment is perfectly placed for visiting Vancouver, and Hugo, his HUGE dog, is adorable.
Our room, described as cosy in the listing,was small. However, the fact that you have the freedom to use the dining room & drawing room at your leisure, more than makes up for this. The bed is very comfortable,and there is a window that can be opened should you wish. The floor fan was a thoughtful addition, and we used this to successfully mask any street noise at night.
The bathroom is separate from the bedroom, but right across the hall, and the shower pressure is more than adequate.
Michael was a wonderful host. He was always available & willing to help out, always had great suggestions for getting the most out of our visit to the city, and truly was an engaging conversationalist ( I would recommend taking the time to enjoy a few "chats" with him). At no time though, did we feel an overbearing presence of our host. Somehow, he was always there, but in the background.
As mentioned, Michael was able to provide secure parking for us during our stay, which was much appreciated. However, if you are just visiting within the city, we did not feel that a car was necessary, and public transport to/from the airport is so convenient from his place (Canada Line is about a 5-block walk).
Just a few words about his dog. He is huge, but is the epitome of a gentle giant, and very well behaved in the house. You wouldn't know he was there, except for his size!
We found Michael's apartment to be a comfortable, convenient & fun place from which to explore Vancouver.

Michael was such a great host- This was only my second Airbnb experience and it was great to stay with Michael who was so eager to guide me through anything I needed while in Vancouver. His apartment is beautifully decorated, warm and inviting and Hugo is an awesome addition if you like dogs. It's SO easy to get anywhere downtown and beyond from this central location and although there is a little bit of traffic noise (which can be easily blocked out with the fan) it's very quiet and peaceful.
