Staying at Ms. Bev’s place was one of the best choices I made in making Jamaica something memorable to me and my girlfriend. We hopped around Jamaica, firstly going to Montego Bay, then Negril, and finally Port Antonio. At the first two places we visited, we kept getting hustled to buy things or always had to bargain the taxi rides slower/decline any “help” from random Jamaicans, but Port Antonio and the area or community that Ms. Bev lived at was nothing like those places. She treated us like family, shared with us her stories of how the places she lives at came to be a home build from love and unity. Her family were all so warm and compassionate to us and really accommodated us. Paul and Daddy made amazing healthy tasting food for us for a small fee which was well worth compared to eating out all the time. Paul and Daddy showed me and taught me how they made coal and other ways of how they made food or cultural things which was awesome. Their a family built of compassion and care, I love how living at their home let me be in two worlds one where I’m closer with nature while being in a home. Getting there was pretty cool because after taking the bus up to Grange Hill and from there you literally ask the people around there to point you up to Ms. Bevs place, its weird and crazy to randomly ask strangers you don’t know but it was quiet a cool experience because its a community up there and people are actually kind there...=] Riina is such a sweet person to help host this place with Ms. Bev she’s family to them, their story is quiet inspirational and one you have to hear from Ms. Bev =]. Cool places to go to from here is the beach near by and Reach Falls, it was like a hike swim adventerous exploration at the falls, a must do! If your looking to get to Port Antonio from where ever in Jamaica, try considering Knutsford express. Their a different kind of bus company and they have superb hospitality on the buses. It only cost $28 per person to go from Negril all the way to Port Antonio. (Their website is wonky so try and find their station to buy the tickets there ahead of time) Once you get off that bus which is next to Errol Flynn Marina Bay “Dont take a taxi or charter down!” It literally is a 5-7minute walk, pretty easy, dont pay $5 for a five min car ride….Just ask the people at the station which way to walk down into town. When in town you have to walk to that bus stop which is across from a texxaco gas station. Riina will provide directions and help! =] Thanks for everything Ms. Bev and Riina, bless your hearts.
