Descrizione

Get back to where you can relax in a natural forest with rivers and wild gardens alongside grass courts for games and sunbathing. More castles than anywhere in France per square mile - the best food in Europe, fresh and abundant. Book early!

This former mill set in idyllic surroundings is the perfect place to get away to find tranquility and peace. For fishing on the L'Isle river or watching stars in one of the clearest skies in Europe this is the right place to be. Enough space for three couples and 4 children this mill dating back to before 1790 offers a retreat to nature in the middle of a large wooded part of France. The kitchen has a four ring gas cooker, two fridges, microwave, washing machine and enough items for self-catering for up to 10 people. Three bedrooms on the first floor with double beds in each and on the 2nd floor attic space an open plan style area ideal for children with various toys and games to amuse.

A rustic style means everything is here that you need but it is not five star so those wishing to have clinical conditions should book in the Hyatt. A mixture of old and new furniture throughout the house gives it a curiosity which many guests find attractive and amusing. Hot and cold water with lots of pressure and three toilets, two bathrooms with two showers and one bath and a well stocked laundry cupboard provides most people with all the things needed to stay fresh and smiling. The river has been certified for swimming and the lake has been filled with water flowing over the weir for the past three years. In times of serious drought there is still water flowing under the house - this building has lasted three hundred years and will remain so, well after most of the rest of the world's recent buildings have disappeared :-)

A sandy beach jut three kilometres away with lifeguard is free to all with facilities for eating and showers. A larger than one metre telescope can be viewed and used by those who are competent at a site nearby which is ideal for stargazing due to the very clear skies of the Dordogne. Caves with the first ever created art drawings of horses and other animals are just 15km away, and the world famous Lascaux caves, an hour's drive away.

The area is regarded as the supreme location for specialities, fois gras and truffels, a wealth of good food and even the French regard the Dordogne as THE area in France for those who require the very best. The weekly market in Thiviers sells anything from seafood (three hours from Bordeaux) to local cheeses and mushrooms offering something to suit all tastes. Needless to say local restaurants offer excellent meals starting at 10€ with no limit at the top end. The French cuisine is world famous and this is where they come to taste the best.

For those who enjoy a glass of excellent wine - where else would you choose to go? Prices are especially attractive for those from the UK - test it here and then take a crate home with you!

You will need a car to get around, but there are four large supermarkets less than 6km away opening from 8 until 19:00.

In the extensive grounds there are numerous gardens in which to dream or watch the stars. An area for badminton with net is popular with guests - work off the calories you gained the night before or just walk up into the forests all around the property and catch sight of the amazing variety of animals, otters, buzzards and kingfishers. Guests are continually listing all the creatures they sighted in and around the grounds of this ancient oasis.

The Isle river has been a source of gold and the annual weight of gold found is 6 tonnes. A course in gold prospecting can be booked with an instructor but this is given in French.

A hi-speed train from Paris to Limoges and then a local 40 minute train will get you to Thiviers - just click on the link and you will be set to shrug off the city blues. :-)

Sunbathing, swimming in fresh streams and rivers. Starry skies with some of the clearest skies in Europe. The barn and a small wild garden is restricted access only. Washing machine, microwave, wood stove and stereo system with speakers inside and out at your disposal.

If previously agreed I can be available to meet guests, maintain freshly cut grass, provide wood supplies for the stove, supervise kids, do shopping, cooking or any other services required. An inflatable boat and bicycles can also be provided at agreed additional cost.

On the edge of the Limousine Park, the house is set in a wooded private valley giving guests peace and quiet, time to relax and unwind from the stress of city life. Guests comment that this is the only place they get a real night's sleep, where they can forget about the rest of the world while enjoying the pleasures of nature in a cosy and secluded, safe and silent paradise.

The closest public transport is 6 kilometres away, a local train station with daytime departures every 30 minutes to major cities, Limoges and Perigueux. Parking in the grounds is shaded from the sun but not covered. The Limoges airport is 45 minutes away. Hire cars are recommended.

Internet wifi was added in October 2015. There are various sporting activities offered by locals such as 24km distant Base de loisurs de Rouffiac - wakeboarding and wakeskating. Canueing is in Brantome - a 35km drive away. Golf in Perigueux, 35km and tennis just 2km away in Nanthiat village. Horseriding on the road to Jumiliac le Grand 10km away.

Some guests may refuse to leave and feel addicted to the lifestyle, particularly if the stay is as long as two weeks or more and if they are of school age.

Booking periods are centred around Saturdays in July and August to ease changeovers.
