Our house is in the heart of the lively medieval village of Fabrezan with its many bars and restaurants. We are 30 minutes from Carcassonne and the lovely quiet sandy beaches of Narbonne and 40 minutes drive from Spain allowing easy access to Ceret, Collioure and Figueres.
The fishing villages of Gruissan and Bages, where flamingos can be seen, are also nearby, as is Cathar country and the Canal du Midi. The Pont du Gard, historic Albi and the bustling port of Sete are under two hours away.
Our house is built on Roman foundations in the central Place du Plo ( an ancient French term for "well"), backing onto the 12th century Church of St Vincent and its tower. The listed dungeon is nearby, as is the museum in the Mairie dedicated to Charles Cros, an accomplice of Rimbaud and Verlaine, and inventor of the phonograph although he lost out on the patent to Edison and died penniless in Paris in 1888.
All the house is available to guests. The kitchen is fully fitted with an induction hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, cafetière and has a table and chairs, although alternative dining space is available on the balcony. The bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, shower cubicle and ensuite w.c. The lounge has a large flat screen tv, with freeview, books, DVDs, CDs and a sofa (which is a pull down sofa bed if needed) and opens onto the balcony overlooking the courtyard.
