Large suite of rooms on the top floor of our Georgian Grade II listed house in Kendal town centre quietly tucked away at the head of an historic cobbled yard. Double bedroom, huge adjoining living room (with basic kitchenette and double sofa bed) and modern bathroom all for the exclusive use of our guests. Free parking.

Although the suite is part of our house, it is private and self contained with its own access so you can come and go as you please.

The suite can comfortably accommodate 4 people with 1 double bedroom, large private living room (28ft x 21ft - 8.5m x 6.5m) with basic kitchenette and double sofa bed and a modern private bathroom.

Please note: there are no cooking or washing up facilities in the suite. Crockery and cutlery is provided for breakfast and/or takeaway food and we collect and do the washing up for you when requested!

All rooms have double height ceilings with exposed beams, great views across Kendal's rooftops to the hills beyond and plenty of character.

The living room has 2 large lounging sofas (one of which opens to a comfortable double bed) a 48" Smart HD TV and DVD player and kitchenette with fridge, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster, crockery and cutlery. The bedroom has a double bed, flat screen TV and digital radio. The bathroom has a large free-standing bath with hand held shower, twin sinks, underfloor heating and glass towel warmer.

Towels, bed linen, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, universal travel adaptor and hot water bottles are provided. Wi-fi.

You'll find a large selection of DVDs under the coffee table and an array of local interest books, leaflets and maps which you are welcome to use during your stay.

Help-yourself-breakfast is provided for each day of your stay at no extra cost (homemade bread, butter and preserves, fresh fruit, cereal, milk, local yoghurts, fruit juices, black and herbal teas and a selection of Nespresso coffees). There are ice cubes in the freezer compartment of the fridge.

Please take a look at our guidebook for details of local restaurants and eateries we recommend.

We own a miniature Dachshund (very small). Her name is Miss Saveloy Sausage or Savvy for short. She is very quiet, friendly and adores children but is never allowed in the suite (she can't get up the stairs - they are too big)!

I run my graphic design business, Dada Design, from home so I'm around if you need anything. When my work load allows, I love to spend time with guests and get to know them better, but I'm also sensitive if guests prefer their privacy. We've found texting is the perfect way to communicate with guests during their stay so a verified mobile number is very useful.

There is a superb supermarket 2 minutes walk away that stocks a wide variety of local and specialist produce and has an excellent cheese counter, deli section and off licence.

Kendal's bustling high street is one minute's walk away where you'll find plenty of shops, a library, the post office and several banks. There's a Costa on the main high street and Caffe Nero is in the marketplace.

It's worth exploring Kendal's historic yards where you'll find many of our more individual retailers and businesses.

The market town of Kendal lies just outside the spectacular Lake District National Park, has plenty of pubs, cafés, takeaways and restaurants, 2 museums, a leisure centre with swimming pool, golf course, the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre with a theatre, cinemas, art galleries, bars and a regular live music programme (visit the breweryarts website). There are plenty of places to explore with lovely parks (Kendal Castle, Serpentine Woods and Noble's Rest) and pleasant walks along the river Kent right on our doorstep. There is a street market every Wednesday and Saturday and a farmer's market once a month.

Visit to book.
The Castle Dairy Restaurant and Art Gallery offers a unique dining experience in Kendal’s oldest inhabited building. Staffed by Kendal College apprentices and watched over by chef Robert Stacey, the restaurant provides exceptional food, surrounded by local art work, in a truly unusual setting.

We absolutely loved our stay. The colour house felt like home from home as soon as we stepped through the door. Thank you for sharing your special place with us. The fresh bread and tasty yoghurts were simply delicious and we loved there arty decor and papel Picado bunting. You have the perfect spot for exploring Kendal and the local walks. This was the perfect introduction for our first visit to the lakes and we hope to say hello again soon.

We had a great stay and a lovely weekend the weather was amazing too. You honestly couldn't want for anything, Caryn and Merv have thought of everything, from blankets and hot water bottles for cold nights, to all the small things like toiletries that you may forget to pack. Fresh home made bread / fresh milk and orange as well as a range of breakfast cereals and jams and tea's were all provided. There were loads of books/ dvds/ games for those rainy days or for anyone just wanting to relax. The atmosphere of the room was very relaxing and the history of the building itself was very interesting. 3 things i can think of that would benefit future bookers. 1 Kendal is a one way system, so you may need to go around it a few times to see where you are going, look out for the key points Caryn tells you about and dont use a sat nav! 2. Access to the property is up 2 flights of stairs outside of the building, which may be difficult for older people, however access can also be done from walking through the highstreet and around which is only a couple of minutes walk. 3. There are so many shops and food venues that you wont be wanting for anything and best of all they are all within a stones throw of the property itself! I will defiantly be booking back in the future.

Risposta di Caryn:
Thanks Helen. Can I just point out there is direct road access to the suite for dropping off elderly or infirm guests right at the door with just one step if they can't manage the steps after parking the car in the Old Shambles. You just need to drive around the block onto Low Fellside to the front door! This is clearly shown in the photos I include on my Airbnb page. Kendal's one way system has been terrible since they pedestrianised the high street especially for the yards that are ignored by sat nav and Cumbria Highways refusal to update the maps. we have been asking for years for them to help but they say it's nothing to do with them which is annoyingly unhelpful when we are trying to bring holiday makers and tourists to Kendal! Miss Saveloy Sausage sends her regards!

Great place in the heart of Kendal and a great base for exploring The Lakes. The home was very welcoming and fully stocked for a comfortable stay. We use the term 'home' correctly too as that is exactly how it felt.

So glad you both enjoyed the suite and felt at home. I always love to hear people are comfortable and relaxed in our house. Thanks for being perfect guests, Caryn & Merv.

I've been a freelance graphic designer for the past 30 years and began my career in the music industry freelancing for Virgin, EMI and Rough Trade Records, designing record sleeves for bands including The Smiths and Everything but the Girl.

Originally from London, I've been living in the Lake District for 20 years now and run my business, Dada Design, from home in Kendal working for a number of clients large and small in and around Cumbria. I live with my husband, Merv, who is a gardener.

We are very flattered by the wonderful reviews we've been getting from our airbnb guests and really enjoy opening our house to people from around the world.
