This cozy lakefront cedar log cottage is 35 minutes drive from downtown Ottawa on small and quiet Barnes Lake. It has a full kitchen, flush toilet, indoor and outdoor showers, a huge partially screened in deck, and a large dock with weed-free swimming. It is a peaceful, party-free lake perfect for bonfires, reading books, and getting in some sun and swimming. There is a very large network of hiking trails adjacent to the cottage, with other lakes to explore. It comes with a canoe, two kayaks and a Weber BBQ. There is a bedroom with a queen sized bed, two side tables with lamps, a window, dressers and a bench. There is also a pull-out sofa in the living room should you wish to sleep 4 - although we would not recommend it for anyone other than children as it is a small space. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics for cooking. There is a french press for coffee.
Motor boats are not welcome and are a very rare sighting on the lake. We are not fisherman ourselves but lots of people do fish. The lake is stocked with trout and there are small and large mouth bass.
SOME very well behaved pets are allowed. Please ask us about this before booking. Thanks!!
PLEASE NOTE: This is a cottage. It has quirks and is not perfect. Sometimes the outside gets in. Occasionally the power goes out after a storm. The canoe has wandered off into the bay on it's own... etc. etc. We do our best to respond as quickly as possible to any unforeseen issues that may arise, but if you expect a hotel-like experience, please book elsewhere.
You have direct access via the lake-front property to the lake, with a dock to relax on and jump off for swimming! The lake is weed-free with fresh, amazingly clean water. There are kilometres and kilometres of nature trails just adjacent to the cottage. There is a fire pit overlooking the lake.
There will be blankets and pillows for you but we ask that you bring your own sheets and towels. Thanks!!

We own two cottages side by side. The cottage to the left will either be empty or with other quiet and respectful guests. On the right, is our lovely and very quiet neighbour.
When arriving we, or my parents who also have a place on the lake down the road, will hopefully be there to greet you. If not, we will allow you to settle in yourselves and will come by to say hello shortly after your arrival or the next morning if you are coming in late. We ask that you send a text message to the number provided in the rental approximately an hour before your arrival. When you check out, if we are not there, you can simply leave the key and we will be by shortly thereafter.
The door at the back is not accessible. Use the door up the stone steps.

Most cell providers work out there but no guarantees. I use Rogers with no problems whatsoever.
Suggested items to bring:
Extra life jackets
Drinking water - water is very clean and we use it for dishes, brushing teeth, etc. but as it is drawn directly from the lake, we suggest bringing drinking water
Bug spray, citronella candles, sunscreen
Duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases, towels - SORRY WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY!
This is our cherished little cabin. Please treat it as if it were your own.
Respect mother nature. She is your mother too!
We expect you to leave it very clean and to respect the quiet, peaceful nature of the lake: no loud music or parties, please.
Respect the local fire bans!
Garbage and recycling:
Garbage and recycling is picked up where the driveway meets the road early Wednesday mornings. It is very important that the garbages are used properly with cords and latches fastened tightly or the raccoons will have a party.
I ask that you do not use any candles inside or on the deck of the cottage as the cottage is cedar and we want to avoid any risk of fire.
Please bring your own bedding and towels. There are pillows and two duvets, but you will require your own cases for both.
