Well appointed Four bedroom cottage on 75 private acres. Spectacular views of Wilson's Prom across the ocean and Bass Strait. The house is surrounded by farmland and livestock, with large tracts of bush-land and wildlife habitat.

Shellback is a three bedroom cottage (tiny fourth bedroom) set on 75 private acres with spectacular views of Wilson’s Promontory across the ocean. It is a unique country property on acreage with “hidden away” feel.

The road to Cape Liptrap is an exclusive part of Australia. About one third of the peninsula is National/Coastal Park, with farmland nestled within. Shellback is one of only a handful of country properties located on this peninsula. Rainfall in South Gippsland is higher than the rest of Victoria, so the landscape stays lush long after west and central Victoria has browned off.

The peninsula’s landscape is green rolling hills right out to the Cape, where the cliffs drop off to Bass Strait. It is the second most southerly point of mainland Australia. Cape Liptrap juts out and picks up swell created miles out in the Southern Ocean, which crashes heavily on the cliffs below the lighthouse. It is a powerful place: Harshly beautiful.

To get to the Shellback house you need to drive through a paddock, past two dams and under two rows of pine trees. The house has its own fenced enclosure. Sheep or cattle are grazed by the neighbouring farmer, so there is often livestock in the paddocks surrounding the house. A dog fence has recently been installed, so dogs are permitted outside, let us know.

The lower one third of the property’ the owners have dedicated to wildlife conservation. Several creeks meander through the bushland. Walking tracks have been cut, so there is plenty of exploring to do without leaving the property. There is a map of the property included in the photos.

The proximity of so-much national park on the peninsula supports a great array of wildlife and provides wildlife corridors. Kangaroos, wallaby’s, lizards, echidna’s, possums, wombats, owls, frogs, eagles are residents, or common visitors to Shellback. There is always a myriad of birds including galah’s, cockatoo’s, blue wrens, swallows and our favourite; black cockatoos. One night driving back from Fish Creek we saw 12 wombats. There are local wedge tailed eagles that are often seen hunting in pairs or taking a rest at Shellback. They’re huge up close.

The closest beaches are Bear Gully and Walkerville South about ten minutes-drive. It is the location for the fabulous children’s book “Magic Beach” by Allison Lester. The beach is beautiful, offering sandy stretches, climbing rocks and rock pools. When you are there it is easy to imagine how Allison dreamt up the events in the book. Even in peak season it is rarely crowded. If seclusion is your thing, you can walk toward and Bear Gully and usually find a beach to yourself. There is awesome snorkelling around arch rock.

The house has been renovated over the last few years including bathrooms, double glazed windows installed and a massive deck and full new kitchen.

We love staying st Shellback. It is our 3rd visit. It is the most magnificent location with breathtaking views. It is gorgeous. And the new deck is so good. Couldn't get a more beautiful setting for a meal with friends. Loved it. The house is lovely - very comfortable and has everything you could need. Fresh new renovation, very nice. More open and functional space. Comfy beds which is very important to me :) And a great shed with table tennis. We spent time at South Walkerville beach, some other local beaches, and did the Mt Oberon trek at Wilsons Prom - such a pristine part of the world. We had a Koala visitor above the shed, and lots of beautiful birds. Didn't make it to the lighthouse this time. Constructive feedback - I would suggest getting rid of the doona protectors - they don't breathe and are very hot.

Fleur was a terrific host, the house was warm when we arrived and we were made to feel most welcome. The house is terrific, the views wonderful. Does everything it says on the box - a terrific place to unwind and to really really get away from it all. No mobile phone or interweb coverage for 3 days is truly a blessing. The sunrises are spectacular.

A wonderful home and property and Fleur was great to communicate with. Everything was exactly as stated and the home was immaculately clean, warm and inviting. The property and views are stunning and a great place with access to beach, parks and scenic views. Would not hesitate to book again!

Fleur has been a marvellous host, hugely helpful and patient, well beyond what one would expect. The house itself is perfect: comfortable, well-designed, extremely well-equipped with everything you could possibly want, with a lovely view. Naturally it's very peaceful, in a lovely setting. Fleur provided a very comprehensive guide to the area that we found extremely helpful, and this really helped us to make the most of our time in this lovely area. There are wonderful spots to visit close by, and it's also a good location from which to visit Wilsons Prom. We would love to come back again, both to the area and to this particular house.

The House we rented was in perfect condition when we arrived, exactly as advertised - with stunning views facing the prom. The kitchen had been fully renovated recently - with 700l fridge/freezer, induction plates, new oven and microwave + dishwasher - which made easy to cook anything. All the essentials were provided to cook or make tea/coffee. Given that we only were two adults and one child, we only used the master bedroom with ensuite, and one room with single bed - but there were two more single beds and an additional double bed (could have easily been enough to share with friends). We used the air conditioning on a 39C day and it cooled down the rooms very well. The communication with Fleur was very easy, she promptly responded to our emails/calls and her instructions were very useful. The only down side was that because of its orientation the house faces the coastal winds, and this can be very noisy to sleep when there is a lot of wind (which was the case one night).

The house and the location were just perfect for our Christmas holiday. There was plenty of room for our two small families and the layout was very practical. The view from the decking is something you will never get tired of looking at. Fluer was a pleasure to deal with. She provided us with all of the information we needed and was quick to respond to any queries we had. Thank-you again.

Hi my name is Fleur. My husband Mike and I have a small flock of holiday houses and cabins, that we run as our management company Dufflebird.

We manage 9 Holiday Houses that are all within 2.5 hours of Melbourne. All places are different but they are similar in that they all have personality and they are all surrounded by nature.

3 of our 9 properties are more like cabins than houses.
3 of our properties belong to us, and the other 6 belong to friends (or friends of friends).
7 of the 9 properties are pet friendly (and 6 of those welcome well behaved inside dogs).
Some are rustic and eclectic & some are more contemporary and luxurious.
All places are close to beaches or waterfalls.

Each house is fitted out to feature its own individual character and all are completely self-contained. We have set them all up so that guests can feel like its their own private getaway, while in residence.

Its a commitment keeping each place well maintained and organised. a labour of love. We hope to appeal to like minded souls who are respectful to our properties, the neighbours (in places where there are neighbours) and the surrounding community.

Fingers crossed, we seem to luck in with kindred spirits ....most of the time.
