L'alloggio

1.The caretaker for the house is Wilson Mills. He lives in the last house on the left-hand side of the road as you leave Boyd’s Harbor. His wife, Stella, is the cleaning lady and she will clean up after you leave. Before doing so place all the soiled laundry into the laundry basket and she will take care of it. Leave a cheque or cash for $60 on the table. A little extra if you feel it may be required. (Wilson & Stella’s phone number is ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).The electric hot water tank may be turned off. When you arrive, turn on the circuit breaker in the main panel box located in the porch. Please turn off the breaker when you leave.
3.The drilled well water is not recommended from drinking. It has a lot of sulfur and may have a light grey color. For drinking there is a water cooler in the kitchen and you can purchase water. Most grocery stores will fill the plastic water containers. There are three of these 20L containers located in the house. At the Auk winery in Twillingate you can also get the containers filled. Should you want to get real good spring water, you might consider driving to Gander Bay and at the intersection where the road splits to go to Gander or around the loop there is a spot on the side of the road that everyone uses to fill up the containers for free. Real good water.
4.The well has a submergible pump with the water tank located in the crawlspace under the house. Sometimes when there is a power failure, the pump relay located on the water tank will disengage. Just reset this pump relay and it should be good to go. If not, call Wilson and he will take care of it.
5.Should you need heat in the house you will have to turn on the propane tank and light the fireplace and heater? Instruction to do so is in a binder located in the kitchen.
6.There is no roadside garbage collection. You have a couple of options. Prior to leaving you may want to take the garbage to the dump which is located a short distance out on Chapel’s Island. The associated garbage card is hung on the wall in the porch. You may want to locate the garbage collector in Boyd’s Cove and give him a few dollars to pickup the garbage.
7.Prior to leaving please write a little something in the guest book.
8.The switch for the front dormer lights is located in the kitchen on the wall next to the left-hand side of the propane stove.
9.There is a small barbeque that will require charcoal.
10.The lawnmower is in the shed, should you get a little energy and time and the grass need mowing, it would be appreciated.
11.The house has no phone, cable TV or internet. However, there is a small TV with a built in DVD. There is also a radio/stereo.
12.The kitchen is fully equipped including a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and the necessary pots, pans and dishes to support day-to-day needs.

Profilo utente di Gary

I was born in Boyd's Cove, Newfoundland and left the quiet and cozy community and at a young age to join the Canadian Forces and see the world. After a 29 year career, I retired and now residing in North Bay, Ontario.

However, I still have a passion for the Newfoundland and its beauty and culture. The Pelley House Heritage Home has provided me a continuous connection to the island and a place to stay when I take my annual pilgrimage back to the motherland. The restoration projects associated with this home has only enhanced my interest in Newfoundland history and genealogy.

90% of my income goes to support travel, guitars, cars and good Scotch Whisky. The remaining 10% is wasted.
