*Campsite only.* Pitch your tent overlooking our pleasant rippling country creek. Superb location for travelers (bicycle campers-take note!) in the beautiful Skagit Valley close to scenic State Route 9. Creekside firepit. Small, portable "wagbag" toilet and small picnic table. Short drive to old town Mount Vernon which has excellent brewpubs and dining, a wonderful seasonal Saturday Farmer's Market, and the Skagit River Riverwalk. Good for couples and solo adventurers. No smoking!
- This is not glamping -- a green, grassy tent spot by our lovely creek on an old, worn, but pretty farm property of 20+ acres. We're just starting out with trying land sharing to help keep the land open space, so for now we're hosting only one camping group of 2 at a time. You'll need all your own equipment just as if camping at a campground or in the wilderness. Best for 2 adults with a 2-4 person tent, we'll consider one child or one dog with pre-discussion and pre-approval. Campfire area by the creek, a small picnic table, 2 jugs of drinking water and a small portable toilet are provided. No shower, but a dip in the creek swimming hole will do ya if it's warm enough! Close to scenic Route 9 (our little home is right by the road, but the sites are a ways away from the road and house, and tucked in the grass and woods down by the creek) so depending on the site and the season there can be some road noise at times. We are in northwest Washington State and do get rain and it can get muddy. You may have to walk (short walk and we're happy to help) to the site if there's been heavy rain and the ground is too soft for vehicles - or, if the weather is really horrid and you have a freestanding tent, our old barn is a possibility! You drive through part of the horse pasture to the campsite-we do our best to clean it up but there is grass, weeds, sometimes mud and sometimes horse "piles". Currently we have two horses, and four cats. The cats love people and wander about trying to be helpful, we keep them in at night since there are coyotes in the valley. The horses enjoy a couple apple slices for a treat and a gentle rub on the face.
- This is a rural old farm property with a lot of greenery. Please be safe with cooking and fires. You are welcome to have a wood fire (bring your own firewood) on one of our creek beaches -unless there is a burn ban-- but be certain it is completely extinguished and absolutely OUT before going to bed or leaving. Since these aren't 'established' campsites with firepits, just grassy areas in the woods by the creek, we are considering getting a small portable propane 'campfire' to be available for the sites that aren't right at the beach, or if there is a burn ban. Two jugs of drinking water, a small portable 'wagbag' toilet with wagbags, toilet paper and pop up toilet shelter are provided. No shower available, but if it's warm enough a dip in the creek will do ya! DO NOT put your tent right on the beach, most sites are very close to the creek anyway. The creek can go up fairly quickly if a beaver dam breaks upstream. If you choose a site on the other side of the creek, at this time those sites are not drivable and carrying your supplies at your own risk over a small high narrow worn out footbridge is required--only available for very, very light packers, and there is no picnic table at those sites. Please keep all your food items and food trash in your vehicle when gone or going to bed. The wildlife is not always visible but the animals and birds are definitely around! Over the years we've seen all kinds of birds (including crows who love to grab your food items or shiny little items!), many coyotes, river otters, beavers, raccoons, bunnies, ermine, mink, bobcat, and (not recently) cougar and bear. Especially early morning, evening and nighttime. Some of the greenery includes nettles, sticky bushes and blackberry bushes with thorns. We have an electric fence for the horses on our property and it is somewhat near to a couple of the sites. Be sure to bring bug repellent, they like our place too! Please do not feed anything to our horses or cats, except possibly 2-3 apple slices to each horse *once* per day if you'd like, be careful of the electric fence. Please note that we have no control over weather, creek level, noise from valley neighbors doing tractor or hay work or farm work, fireworks, road construction etc etc. Thanks! In booking this reservation for their use of our property in any way,all campers/guests understand there are hazards and risks, and agree to assume complete and full responsibility for their own choices, actions and enjoyment, and hold Marla Wilk and her family members and/or heirs and Lake Creek Farm free from any and all liability in case of an injury or accident anywhere on our property, buildings, structures, bridges, creek or beaches or while using flotation devices, kayaks, etc. or visiting the horses.
- Please respect information/signs about where our property ends, do not go beyond the property lines on land or in the creek. No loud music or loud 'partying' out of courtesy to your hosts and our neighbors in this rural valley. Please respect and treat this place, nature, and animals with care. Quiet time 10:00PM to 7:00AM
- The Big Lake area was settled in the late 1800's, and was once the the home of shingle mills and lumber mills, a railroad, and several thriving settlements. Prior to that era this valley and Lake Creek were favorite spots for the Native Americans to gather, hunt and fish. The rocky creek beaches in the valley have been known to have an arrowhead show up once every few years here and there!
