We had a lovely time. The property is the former home of a well known local sculptor. A lot of his history is still there. There is a very interesting library and as we used some of the books we found various notes in places like a mushroom identification guide. Some of his artwork is still in place about the house. And most of all, the view is amazing. We read a bio of the artist that stated that he lived in a house with arguably the best view in Maine. Castine is a wonderful example of small town America. Most people wave and say hello. It was a place kids could still walk around safe, alone and I let mine do that and feel a bit of what it was like when I grew up. On July 4th they had a cute parade that the town turned out for. My kids joined sailing classes at the Castine Yacht club and surprised themselves by really enjoying them. We bought lobsters at $8/lb at Eaton's wharf and were told they thought the prices were too high this year. I just loved walking around. The views of the bay and harbor were superb from almost anywhere on Perkins street. We went swimming at high tide (the water was very cold though) and gathered wild strawberries and Blue berry afterwords and I even got one early raspberry. It is a long way from home, but we definitely want to try to come back.

The house is gorgeous and huge. It's right next to a lighthouse in beautiful Castine. I highly recommend a stay here!
