Quiet 100-year old home in the Oakland Hills, only 20 minutes to downtown Oakland & 45 minutes to San Francisco. This is a vintage home with charm, so the kitchen isn't modern & the floors often creak. But your cozy room has a Bay view from the comfy queen-sized Tempur-Pedic bed, hardwood floors, cool Bay breezes & flat-screen tv. Only 15 minutes from Oakland Airport & Oracle Arena. A bus stop 3 blocks away takes you to BART, the airport, & SF. If you need a car you can rent my Toyota at Turo.
My home has vintage details, like the oak tree tiles in the fireplace, and the fireplace on the back patio, which has dates inscribed in the concrete from 1918. In the early 1900s, my house was the guest house for the pink Victorian next door. There are 20 fruit trees & a large oak in my yard, so there are lots of birds. I love lounging in this room because the Bay breeze comes through the window, & the birds chirping & singing sounds like a stereo when both windows are open. A squirrel family lives in the oak tree, so you'll occasionally hear them fussing at my cats. The porch is a great place to sit & enjoy the Bay view, & have a smoke in this 420-friendly house. Sadly, I have to move next March because the owner wants to move back in, so I've already started packing. I've lived here 9 years, but the hot Bay Area rental market is forcing me to move. That said, there will be some clutter as I pack boxes, but only in the back of the house, where the laundry room & breakfast nook are.
You're welcome to lounge and watch tv in the living room, or to use the kitchen, as long as you clean up after yourself. The front porch is a great place to have coffee in the morning and enjoy the view. The only places off limits to guests are the 2nd bedroom (that would be mine) and the basement.

I'm a friendly host and can offer information about where to go and where to eat, including Oakland's taco truck scene, hiking trails, farmers markets, and bars. My cats will probably keep to themselves, and spend most of their time outdoors. They may come around to observe you, while keeping their distance. However, Opie is likely to strike up a conversation. When he talks, I've been told he sounds like a monkey, and the sound he makes has been described as 'chirping.' It's pretty cute. A friend who stayed here once told me Opie should be on YouTube :)

Oakland is an interesting place, in that you can go from an urban area to a hiking trail in a redwood forest in 15 minutes.
No overnight guests are allowed. The listed price is for two people, but I can accommodate two extra guests for an additional $25/night per person. The room has a queen-sized bed, and I have a folding twin-sized memory foam mattress that can also be used in the bedroom. In addition, a 4th person can sleep on the sofa in the living room. I've been told both are comfy :)
Also, please be sure to leave the house key when you check out. Otherwise there is a $25 charge to replace the key & keychain. Sorry to have this rule, but I've had more than one guest leave with the key. And it is a major hassle to drive to Home Depot and have a new key made whenever people forget to leave the key. It takes at least an hour of my time sometimes two. If you've been to Home Depot you know what I mean
