The Old Homestead is close (1 and 1/2 miles) to the downtown area of Berkeley Springs with the state park, spas, shops, and restaurants. The house is set in a large shaded area above two ponds and rolling fields with a view of Sleepy Creek Mountain. Built around 1800, the house had rooms added in about 1850.

L'alloggio

The Old homestead was built in 1800 and added to in about 1850. Copies of deeds and the original land grant are in the kitchen. Notice the huge fossil rocks in the fireplace wall in the kitchen, which was added in 1850. Workmen took layers of paint off these rocks with Coke and a wire brush. Two old fashioned wooden rockers were just added to the living room and sit before the fireplace (with wood stove insert.) A new 32 inch TV and Blue-ray access were also just installed. (It's hard to include modern conveniences and keep the 1800s atmosphere. The TV sits in an antique cabinet. ) There is a small fireplace (non-working) in the middle bedroom (#2). Just added a four-poster maple bed with new memory foam mattress in the back bedroom (#3) off the deck. NOTE: The back bedroom (#3) is a "captured room". It can only be reached by going through adjoining door with bedroom #2, or from outside deck. You can relax on the deck or nap in the hammock near the front porch. Sit on the back patio and watch wildlife , including deer, drink at the pond. Propane gas grill is on patio. Five yard chairs and fire pit just added in the back yard, but must have owner's permission on day of usage (Will depend on local fire rating and weather.) Must keep metal screen on fire bowl at all times. Many DVDs, VCR tapes, CDs stored in TV/audio cabinet in living room (including many kids' selections). Books and games for children and adults are stored in two bookcases for guests' use.

Beautiful old farm house, a great part of history. We couldn't be any happier and pleased with our host Mrs. Constance. She's very welcoming sweet and only cares about making your stay the best it can be. The house has everything you'll need to make it a wonderful stay. The fire pit was great, and biking and fishing along the farm was the icing on cake. We were extremely satisfied with our stay.

Lovely old house full of history. On lovely grounds we walked and fished in the pond. Relaxing, recharging time in beautiful West Virginia.

The 1800 Homestead is a wonderful place to get some R&R and enjoy beautiful Berkley Springs. Our family loved the history of this beautiful, well kept home. Sally pays close attention to the details and made our stay so enjoyable. She was quick to respond to any call or message we sent. The property is lovely! Our children loved playing in the yard, watching the birds eating from the bird feeder and feeding the fish. We all feel very blessed to have had such a relaxing and fun get away. Thank you Sally for making our stay so comfortable and refreshing!

We really loved staying in the old farmhouse. We sat outside each morning and each evening. Very generous that almost all supplies were readily available. The kids absolutely loved the pond. The seclusion was great too. Close enough to town but back in by itself. We definitely are already talking about returning next year. My son says that the house is very nice and he loves how old it is! Just the furnishings inside are absolutely beautiful.

Four of us spent a long weekend July 7-10 at the Old Homestead, and had a magical time. Rustic, yes, but very very clean and everything functioning. Charming, traditionally crafted (wonderfully so) historic home situated on a hillside with a sloping view down through a field of alfalfa and timothy grass to a large pond (a big orange Moby Koi lives there with some large catfish pals)-- the path from house to pond mowed and alive with crickets and butterflies. Tree-filled side yard mown, too, with chairs and a fire pit -- firefly orchestra of light from grass up through trees every night. Shady side porch never bothered by bugs and a comfy hammock tied up under the trees. Clouds of gnats in the yard, but hey, it's the country! Beds comfortable, small A/C units in windows very helpful but not needed all that much because of the shade and mountain breezes. We slept with the windows opened. Sally remarkably responsive and patient with my questions. A quick 5 minute drive from town. GREAT dinner at Lot 12 Public House (make reservations), super-restorative "taking of the waters" at the Roman Bath House, farmer's market on Sunday. Hoping to return for autumn colors.

This is a restored farm house dating back to 1800. It has been thoughtfully and thoroughly updated, without losing the original feel and charm this house has. The rooms are well appointed and very nicely decorated. The front porch is great for enjoying the quiet countryside; we spent a lot of time there. The pond nearby is stocked with koi (and has small fish, we think bass of some sort). It was fun feeding the fish. There is a great golf course nearby (Cacapon) and we made short day trips to Harpers Ferry, Antietam Battlefield, and Paw Paw Tunnel. Nice farmers market in Berkeley Springs on Saturdays. The hosts (Sally and Constance) are truly great to work with. The photos accurately reflect the look and feel of the house and property. We felt that this rental was a great value; we give it the highest recommendation.
