The farmhouse was framed around an existing pioneer cabin in the early 1900s, and fully updated in 2001. It crowns a hill inside 60 acres of woods, dry-wash streams, hills, and meadows, but is only 25 miles from IU and 5 miles from McCormick's Creek State Park. This historic home is a live-in art gallery: Downstairs rooms feature the owners' art work, and a small downstairs bedroom showcases the work of local and regional artists. Fresh linens delivered weekly; cleaning services available.
Hill House has been a short-term rental for fifteen years, and has just changed to a 30-day rental schedule. It has almost anything a guest might need, and is charming and uncluttered, with antique furnishings and a fullly equipped kitchen for guests' convenience. An apartment-sized washer and dryer are located in a laundry closet in the downstairs bathroom. Bed linens, towels, paper products, and soap--including dishwasher detergent--are all supplied.
The entire house is available for your private use, as is a detached, three-season studio. The home is up a long, gently sloping lane, off a major highway and, even in winter, is usually accessible in ordinary front-wheel drive. Three bedrooms and a full bath are upstairs; a small sunroom, another full bath, and living, dining, kitchen and bedroom are downstairs.
Grocery stores, an historic theater, a thriving courthouse square with a history and culture center, an art guild, and a Walmart are located in the small town of Spencer, three and a half miles away.
Interazione con gli ospiti
We live a city block's distance down the hill, in the only other house on these 60 acres, and are available 9-5 daily, should the guests have questions or concerns.
Altre cose da evidenziare
We really are in the country! Hill House is equipped with a small flat-screen TV, DVD Blu-Ray player, and CD stereo equipment, but has no cable programming. It does have access to basic public television stations via an outdoor antenna, and a wireless Internet device, if needed, may be requested.
Babies should be watched carefully on the stairs or the rock entry steps. We keep plugs for the electric outlets in a cabinet in the sunroom.
Guests who wish to smoke are asked to either smoke outside or, in inclement weather, to close the kitchen door and use only the heated/cooled back porch as a smoking room (if your housemates don't object), venting your smoke by opening the exterior door slightly.
Feel free to invite friends over; the dining room table seats six, and the living room table seats four! Parties should be kept smallish, however; the house and parking doesn't work for large events.
We have a 30-day minimum stay. Extensions can be made to an existing 30-day stay, subject to availability, and with an extended stay contract.
Housekeeping services by a licensed, bonded company can be arranged, or guests may use provided in-house cleaning equipment during their stay.
