Descrizione

Self-contained small room for two adults which gets sun from sunrise to late afternoon. Enjoy the birdsong from your room, use the shared decks. Small gas BBQ. Wifi. Insect screens on two windows. Shops (cafés, library, doctors) 3 to 4 min walk away.

The treetop room is above our art studio where we operate our craft jewellery business from (the big red door). You will have your own separate entrance (the blue door).
All of this is right next to our home so we are hidden away or available most of the time.

Your room has a private kitchen with general facilities for food preparation and cooking: induction hot plate, basic microwave, mini (toaster) oven, sink, refrigerator.

A smoke alarm is at the top of the stairs.

We design and make jewellery by hand on the studio below the room. This means that during the day we use hand tools such as hammers and mallets and switch on light machinery to grind and polish (but not for extended periods of time).
Plus we have occasional visits by students taking jewellery lessons singly or in small groups. We expect that during the day you will be out walking in the Ranges or visiting tourist venues.
By the way, jewellery tuition is available at an extra cost, from a $70 1-hr silver ring session to a longer gem-setting class.

The bedroom floor measures 3.3m x 2.4m and with the open wardrobe and kitchen is 10.3 square metres. It faces the sunny north and offers views to the east and the north.

The double bed (135cm x 200cm) is very comfortable and has a double electric blanket and reading light. Hair-drier included.

Power points are close-by. The writing desk is close to more power points so there is plenty of scope to charge your pods, pads, cameras and laptops.

There is a radiant heater above the kitchen alcove which offers fast heating for you as soon as you need it. There is an open wardrobe for hanging your clothes and storing suitcases.

Free WiFi internet from your studio room and from the shared outdoor decks. We have a 100Mbps fibre internet connection, and wifi downloads max out at 60Mbps.

The bathroom: shower, heated towel rail, toilet, and a well-lit handbasin.

No smoking inside or outside.

Timezone. Please note we are GMT+12. You might lose a day coming here, or gain a day.

Airport (AKL). We are 24km from Auckland Airport. Taxis such as Green Cabs (free ph (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) company, or "Uber" taxis ($NZ49) offer the best rates. Get their apps on your phone.
Shuttle services run to and from the airport and some offer “second passenger free”.

If you want us to pick you up or take you - as long as the times are not too early/late - we ask $60 to collect you FROM the airport and $50 to take you TO the airport.

About us.
We work from home in the workshop below the room and we are available most of the days for help and local knowledge.
Ask us about the Waitakere Ranges nearby: from easy walks to challenging hikes. We are amateur birders and can help you with birding places both local and around New Zealand.

We are a Kiwi couple with some knowledge of Italian, French, German and Maori, and we have traveled extensively around the world and especially around New Zealand so we can advise you on other NZ locations you're interested in.

Two outdoor decks with chairs and a table each are available for your use. One is covered and has a small gas barbeque (BBQ).

We allow you to interact with us as much or as little as you like. You have your own entrance, and are free to come and go.

Our next door neighbour is a car meccanic and sometimes can help with transport, from an inexpensive back-packer car to a mobile-home van.

The neighbourhood is green with trees and full of birds. The local shopping centre at Titirangi Village has cafes, stores, a supermarket, a doctor and other health amenities, and restaurants. Bays and beaches are also walking distance away.

The West Coast beaches of Piha and Bethalls and very popular as is the Waitakere regional park is loaded with popular walking tracks. Some walking tracks are nearby but for the others a car is recommended.

Your Treetop room is in the leafy subtropical rainforest suburb of Titirangi (17km west of Auckland city) and very close to Titirangi Village which includes a number of cafes and restaurants only 5 minutes walk away. There are also takeaways, wineshop, pharmacy, supermarket, service station, post office, osteo, physio, doctors surgery, churches, library, art gallery, Yoga classes and an extended-hours dairy.

Public transport operates half-hourly during the day (10am - 3pm), and every 15 to 20 minutes during commuter hours.

Buses to and from Auckland City leave from Titirangi Village to Glen Eden, New Lynn and into Auckland city. Another bus service (170) drives right past our house. These local buses connect with the trains which go to Auckland City, Newmarket or South Auckland. From the Auckland terminus you can take ferries to Devonport on the North Shore, Rangitoto Island, Waiheke Island and Tiritiri Matangi Island bird sanctuary.

FROM AUCKLAND AIRPORT
1. Sky City bus and go to Britomart $16.
2. Western train or bus to New Lynn.
3. Change to bus number 170 which brings you right past our house.

Excellent yoga classes are held nearby and in both French Bay and Titirangi Beach. A monthly food and craft market is a short walk away. The Oratia Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning (car required).

We are a married couple and we've lived and worked here for well over 30 years. We are very keen on cooking, wine and coffee. Music that we listen to ranges from medieval to the Classical era (Hildegard von Bingen to middle Beethoven). Local interest we have are native birds and bush walking (hiking).

We make silver jewellery by hand in our studio below the guest room. Our home is a 1935 barracks style house and we have done much home renovation ourselves, adding all sorts of decks and a chicken house. We built the studio in 1986 and our daughter lived in the treetop room many years ago.

We recently traveled from this new little country to some old and ancient sites. In April 2012 we went to southern Italy and France, standing for a moment beside Sicilian sassi, Sardinian nuraghi, and French cathar castles. Fabulous.
