This immaculately kept 3-bedroom cottage on 230 acres of land with a spring-fed river is off grid, powered by solar panels. The West Branch River runs for more than an half mile along its western boundary, and ultimately empties into Hubbard Lake. You can canoe and hike for miles amongst wildlife without seeing humans

The cottage is located 3 miles inside a locked gate

Much Wildlife

No light/air pollution

A most peaceful setting

Autumn colors are coming into peak first weeks of October.

Lo spazio
You will not find a more solitary setting. There is no man-made noise at this wilderness retreat, except for the sound you make. Get outside and enjoy the nature.

Loons often wake guests at dawn. Owls put guests to sleep (or wake them up) some nights. Coyotes sometime can be heard howling, barking or yelping in the evenings or late at night.

Golfing, Bird watching, canoeing, hiking, fishing, boat trips on beautiful Hubbard Lake (13 square miles large) or day trips to Lake Huron's beautiful sand beaches are some activities available.

This remote sanctuary is typically used as a refuge. Wild turkey, grouse, ducks, deer, bobcat, badgers, black bear and various other wildlife can be spotted, if you're stealth.

The terrain is varied as are the trees, which include birch, oak, maple, hemlock, white pine, red pine, tag alders, cedar, tamarack and more.

Wildlife viewing, fishing, bird watching, huckleberry fields, morel mushrooms and relaxing on deck or laying in hammock are some of the more coveted activities available.

Fire pits for Bon fires at night, if fire danger is low. Wood bundles (hardwood) for sale ($7 per bundle) or you can collect your own wood, which is plentiful in woods. Wood purchase payable at check in.

No power lines within more than a mile of the cabin.

Excellent brook trout and perch fishing in River during right time of year with occasional rainbow trout, pike and walleye taken. Hubbard Lake offers walleye, bass, pike, perch and various other species.

Four person maximum for comfort, although a brand new 2-bunk, bunk house can be rented as well, if there are more than 4 guest. Bunkhouse is $80/night. Payment for bunkhouse rental due at check in. $25 cleaning/laundry fee for bunkhouse.

Weber grill for outside barbecues (bring charcoal, no lighter fluid necessary as chimney starter provided) and full kitchen facilities with everything needed for cooking, serving and eating meals.

Canoe rental. $30/canoe/day. Advance reservation required. (Payment due at check in)

Sunset boat cruise on Hubbard Lake, wine, beer, beverages, cheese, crackers, etc included. $175 for 2.5 hour cruise. Maximum 4 guests. Advance reservation required. (Payment due at check in; full refund if inclement weather justifies canceling outing. We are here for fun!)

Water sports including tubing and wake boarding. $60/hour. 3 hour minimum. 4 guest maximum, unless other arrangements made in advance. Advance reservation required. (Payment due at check in; full refund if weather justifies canceling outing. We are here for fun!)

AuSable fly fishing in drift boat. 2 guest maximum. Half day $350 (4 hours) Full day $600 (8 hours) Advance reservation required. (Payment due at check in; full refund if weather justifies canceling outing. We are here for fun!) Best fishing is June-September, June being my favorite.

Off-site massage service Sunrise Side Massage Therapy by appointment only. 989-312-5772. Reservations required ahead of time for massage as availability is first-come, first-serve. (Payment made to third-party provider)

Psychological studies over the past twenty years reveal that spending more time in a quiet rural setting, close to nature, creates greater attentiveness, stronger memory, and generally improved cognition.

Accesso per gli ospiti
Initially, you will meet the owner or his assistant in Barton City at the General Store (The Mitt Stop). At that point, you will be shown how to reach the cottage and private property and provided keys.

You will gain access through a locked gate and drive more than three miles down a private, dirt road, then two track. It is an amazing drive.

The property can be further accessed by canoe, kayak or small boat to or from the property landing. You will not pass a single cabin on the river between Hubbard Lake and my landing. Beyond the landing is the Little North River, Comstock Creek and Buff Creek.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
This is a nature lovers' paradise, unique in its remote, lower peninsula setting. If you have a quest to get away from it all, then you cannot do better than this place.

Very lush throughput the Spring. Hubbard Lake is great throughout the Summer. Fall color tours are amazing. Winter wonderland for snow shoeing and cross country skiing.

Bring a camera. Wildlife photography can be excellent. I see owls, bald eagles, otters, mink, bobcats, deer, sandhill cranes, ducks, geese, red-headed woodpeckers, blue birds, porcupine, badgers, raccoons, osprey, ruffed grouse, indigo buntings, and various other birds and mammals.

Fishing can be excellent, especially if you like trout and have me as a guide.

Morel mushrooms can be found on my property in May.

Wild blueberries (huckleberries) can be picked throughout the property in mid summer, if you beat the wildlife to it.

Golfing available at various courses in area, such as White Pine National, the Gales, Red Hawk, Elk Ridge and the Dunes.

Boating on Hubbard Lake is spectacular.

Canoeing river (West Branch River) on property and beyond is excellent.

Hiking state and federal trails, including Hoist Lakes' Trails, can be great.

Biking on two tracks or paved surfaces.

ATV and snow mobile trails on state land and federal land.

Negwegon State Park is a beautiful, secluded beach with hiking trails along Lake Huron

Harrisville State Park beach along Lake Huron is pristine.

Harrisville for breakfast, ice cream or quaint shopping

Churchill Point Restaurant overlooking Hubbard Lake is in my opinion the best place for a great meal, albeit not inexpensive.

The best chance to see wildlife and catch fish is during the magic hours, from sunrise to two hours later and from two hours before sunset to sunset.

There are no neighbors. Nearest cabin on road that gets you to my place is more than a mile away.

Golf at various courses in vicinity, my favorite being White Pine National.
