Author writes "There are plenty of family-run pensions in Sultanahmet, but few can claim the Marmara's levels of cleanliness and comfort. Manager Elif Aytekin and her family go out of their way to make guests feel welcome, offering plenty of advice and serving a delicious breakfast on the vine-covered, sea-facing roof terrace. Rooms have comfortable beds, good bathrooms and double-glazed windows.

☺WELCOME TO STAY WITH US IN THE OLD CITY☺

Marmara Guest House is a small authentic charming guest house in Istanbul run by a Turkish family; we will be happy to see you in Istanbul.

It is located in the heart of the open air museum area of Istanbul which is located in the historic Sultanahmet area. It is only a few minutes walking distance from the most important Byzantine and Ottoman monuments of Istanbul, such as: St. Sophia (3 minutes walk), Blue Mosque (3 minutes walk), Topkapi Palace (3 minutes walk), Hippodrome (4 minutes walk), Basilica Cistern (4 minutes walk) and no more than 15 minutes from the Grand Bazaar and no more than 20 minutes from the Spice Bazaar. Furthermore, there are many cafes & restaurants serving traditional meals, shops of authentic goods, and entertainment places in the hotels district. We are surrounded with full of life but located on a very quiet and charming street.

You can enjoy our traditional Turkish breakfast which is free of charge (you will love my mum's ,Mrs. Ayse’s, homemade jams) while watching seagulls with an exciting view of the Bosphorus & Marmara Sea and Asian side on our beautiful vine-covered terrace or relax on our terrace while you are having a free coffee, after a busy day.

All of our rooms have private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, safe boxes, air conditions/central heating systems, mini fridge, hair dryers, towel sets, soaps, shampoos and slippers. PLEASE NOTE THAT ROOM DOES NOT HAVE PRIVATE TERRACE OR BALCONY, it is a common place where you will have your breakfast or relax on our terrace while you are having a free coffee, after a busy day.

Easy to meet the other people staying in the guesthouse while you are having breakfast which is helpful to get ideas and tips about different things in the city.

Airport Services (7/24): One way transfer costs 22 Euro from/to Ataturk Airport and 55 Euro from/to Sabiha Gokcen Airport. If you would like to be picked up please send us your flight number and arrival time. (Transfers are private -not shared- and prices are not per person, total cost up to 4 people).

We can also help you arranging Istanbul and Turkey tours provided through our travel agency with special prices for our guests.

Hope to see you soon in your home in Istanbul! ☺

The Marmara Guest House is on a dead end street that is one block off of one of the main streets in the Sultanhamet (Old Town) neighborhood of Istanbul. It is a wonderul location, in the midst of everything but very quiet. The staff is very competent and helpful. The desk next to the front door is attended 24/7, lots of security plus always someone available to make recommendations about sightseeing, eating, transportation, etc. And the recommendations were always "spot on"! Every morning there is a HUGE selection of breakfast foods, pastries, crepes, Turkish breakfast dishes, protein, carbs, fruits, etc. You won't need to eat again for hours. The breakfast room has four tables and a view of the Golden Horn and Bosphorus. Somehow Elif has been able to attract very interesting guests so there was almost always an opportunity to compare travel histories and recommendations with interesting people. There is also a top roof deck adjacent to and slightly above the breakfast room (which is open for coffee til 11PM). But, alas, during my 5 day stay it was too cold and rainy to sit outside. Another guest and I did brave the weather for about 20 min. I'll come back someday and try it when it is sunny and warm. I loved my room. Since it is a dead end street, there was no street noise, even though I was on the 1st floor. Istanbul is fantastic. I left my too busy husband at home and went solo. I had a terrific time. The people were kind and outgoing. (The carpet dealers were way TOO outgoing! ) It was a wonderful experience after too much negativity about Muslim countries in the USA to see how much I enjoyed being there and meeting the Turkish people. I am sorry there weren't more Americans because it does hurt their tourist economy. But what a really terrific opportunity for international tourists to go! Marmara was fully booked, though, so I felt very lucky to score a room. Clean, pleasant and completely modern bathroom facilities. Thanks to the Marmara staff for a wonderful stay!

This is a great little guesthouse in the heart of the Old Town. It's really close to all the big attractions and restaurants. The place it's self is very nice. The terrace is wonderful especially during the lovely buffet style breakfast. All the staff are super friendly and can help with any request you might have. I would totally recommend this place for anyone on a budget who wants to stay somewhere nice.

I love Istanbul and I feel I am so lucky to live in this beautiful city. It is full of everything: history; Roman, Byzantium, Ottoman, great food, modernism, orientalism, old, new, nature, full of culture, surrounded by water ( Golden Horn, Bosporus, Marmara sea), seagulls, cats, dogs, Asia and Europe, architecture, churches, mosques, mosaics, insightful museums, bazaars and more...
My family moved from Isparta which is south of Turkey to Istanbul about 23 years ago and my parents opened this guesthouse. My dad was just a lorry driver but he opened a guesthouse without any English or experience. He was so brave! I was a kid but loved to grow up with tourists in our house.
Now we have this great place in a great location and great sea view with great guests from all over the world and this is just my life now.
I have graduated from Istanbul University with a degree in Business Administration and as a student discovered our beautiful nature when I had joined a climbing club at Istanbul University. Climbing then became a hobby for me.
Aside from mountain climbing, I also go canyoning, caving (there are lots of caves waiting to be discovered in Turkey), scuba diving and try to see other parts of the world.
I think growing up among tourists has given me the culture of traveling. Not only is Istanbul beautiful, our world is so beautiful and so colorful and we must see every single part of our great world before we die.
In short:
I cannot live without Istanbul!
I cannot live without traveling!
I cannot live without mountains, caves, nature, animals!
I cannot live without my family!
And I cannot live without my Marmara Guesthouse!
