We loved staying at Taramind Lodge - it was very suitable and roomy for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. The nearby beach is quiet with enough little stores closeby for supplies and cafés both on the beach and on the nearby streets. Beds and furniture are comfortable and with the wide decks wehad space to play, relax and exercise. Even though this a less touristy area on the island, we would stay here again as it is easy to hire scooters/car to go sightseeing and then escape back to a slower pace with a more family friendly vibe.
Sikarin (owner) & Ron (property manager), are two real gentleman, who go out of their way to help you with all your needs and provide good honest, non-profitable information relating to the island. travel and tourist spots. The lodge is a large traditional property with plenty of space and storage etc. Externally there is a huge veranda complete with solid wooden sunbeds, a table and chairs. It can be well lit at night with two lighting options available.
The lodge is clean and in a quiet private area.
The beach is a 10 min slow stroll away.
A good selection of restaurants, bars and shops etc., are very close by.
Ron on request will arrange a hire car at a great price. (You can easily drive around the island in a day, and they drive on the left - same as the UK).
Large kitchen modern fridge.
Great size TV with great channel choice.
Two large bedrooms with comfortable double beds and mosquito nets are available for use.
Good aircon facilities.
Great value for money accommodation.
The wooden lodge interior absorbs the natural light making it feel more like autumn than summer.
Very large puddles occur to the walkway/driveway after heavy downpours.
No lighting to the driveway/walkway after dark.
lodge is starting to show signs of wear & tear, could do with an overall.
Large family bathroom (would be better suited if split into two and accessed as en-suite shower/wc rooms)
Had a lovely stay at Tamarind Lodge which was only ruined by the constant November (wet season) rainfall. The huge veranda is fully protected when it rains, so you stay dry. The lodge makes a great family retreat but be aware when sitting outside during the evening, mosquitos are in abundance so spray protect everyone properly. We would recommend Sikarin's properties and would stay again if returning.
If flying into Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport - you can connect with BANGKOK AIRWAYS who fly direct to Koh Samui - AIR ASIA does not....
Air Asia flies from Don Mueang International Airport on the other side of Bangkok into Surat Thani Airport; you will then require a buss/taxi and a ferry crossing to Koh Samui. A hotel may also be required if arriving in the evening (check ferry times).
We absolutely loved our stay at Tamarind Lodge. It is in a beautiful location and only a two minute walk from Mae Nam beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
It is in a great residential area that doesn't feel too touristy. There is a local morning market right around the corner that has amazing food at amazing prices, but you must get there early.
The best part of our stay was the building manager, Ron. He was so welcoming and accommodating to us. Not only did he invite us over for dinner with his family, he took us into town for a night. It was very comforting to have someone to answer all our questions. He made our stay unforgettable.
Our time in Koh Samui was amazing. I would recommend anyone Tamarind Lodge. It's perfect for family or friends, and is inexpensive. Hopefully there will be a pool installed soon. That would really make it extra special.
Sikarin's lodge located 200 m from the beach on North of Koh Samui . This location is my favorite due to best sea and beaches all over the island . Location is calm , but gives you a lot of restaurant opportunities : there are French , german , Russian and Thai food restaurand and food kiosks around , You will have wide choice at any budget . Premises consist of 3 villas of different size , we stayed at smallest one , that very convinient for 2 friends or even 2 couples . Lodge have 2 bathromms with toilet , one with only cold water at attachment next to terrace , whcih we found very convinient and charming . We did not cook in the lodge , but it has all nessasary appliances and ware . There are 3 aircons in the lodge and you can vary temperature fast and easy depend on your needs . Large terrace overlooking 2 sides of lodge is very convinient to sit and dine / drink outside . Ron , managewr of the premises is very well English speaking guys and can help you form renting bikes / cars till provising you with transportation . We highly recomment this Lodge to safisticated international travellers , we were happy there !
Our family of four enjoyed our stay at Tamarind Lodge, which was quiet, peaceful and a short walk from the beach. The property manager Ron was kind & helpful and the frisbee golf course nearby was fun. Sikarin helped to arrange transportation to and from the airport and was very easy to communicate with from the beginning to the end of our stay.
We loved our stay here (me, wife and our 2 year old kid). This place is huge, with a large living room, private terrace, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, and a big kitchen.
Ron (property manager) was very nice and helpful! We didn't have any wifi problems or power outages during our stay.
The location on the island is convenient, perfect for a family stay. After visiting Chaweng and Lamai i have to say that the Mae Nam beach is one of the best beaches of Koh Samui. The beach is very nearby, also convenience stores and restaurants.
Ron offers transfers to quite a few of the major spots on the island for very reasonable rates. In particular, you should definitely arrange your transfer to/from the airport, as it's probably cheaper than a cab and saves you from carrying your bags to the main road.
I highly recommend this AIRBNB accommodation and I would most definitely rent it again.
We (a family of four, kids 9 and 6 years old) stayed at the Tamarind lodge for about two weeks in July 2013.
The house is built in traditional style and the pictures on the web are quite accurate. It was spotlessly clean when we checked in.
The house is large and functional, with a complete kitchen and two bathrooms. What we enjoyed the most was the large wrap-around porch ... ideal for eating, reading or working. Even though it was hot during our time in Koh Samui, we used the AC much less than expected. When doors and windows are open, the house ventilates quite well.
The house is set with three other buildings (two other vacation rentals and the managers house) on a property, about 5 minutes walk from the town center of Mae Nam and the beach.
After visiting most of the islands beaches and towns, we felt very lucky that we had chosen Mae Nam as our base. Not as busy as Chaweng or Lamai, but not without tourist infrastructure either ... and (in our opinion) it might just have the best swimming beach of them all.
To get around the island, you need to rent either scooters or a car. Ron (the property manager) can assist you with both. Speaking of Ron ... he was extremely helpful all throughout our stay. We had a water pipe breaking and a few power outages (affecting the whole village), Ron did everything he could to get things running quickly again.
We would recommend the Tamarind Lodge to anyone and would stay there again ourselves.
My family of four stayed at the Tamarind Lodge in late June 2013. It was a quaint Thai-style house. We went during the rainy season expecting some bad weather, but had none - the weather and the island was gorgeous. The Tamarind Lodge is located close to the main road (less than 70 meters), and about 5 minute walk to Mae Nam beach. Soon after arriving we realized it was going to be very difficult to get around because the sparseness of public transportation, so we worked with Ron, Sikarin's property manager, to rent scooters. This turned out to both be practical and fun. With the scooters, we were able to visit waterfalls on the west side of the island, and head to Chaweng beach on the east side of the island (many restaurants and larger grocery stores).
As a summary of our review of the Tamarind Lodge...
- Clean, comfortable 2-bedroom place centrally located in the Mae Nom area.
- Well laid out floor plan
- Enjoyed the outside shower
- Fast internet and some English channels on cable
- While we were there, the local gov't cut the power off three different times. This is more of an inconvenience, but primarily it was unexpected.
- There was some festival that went on for several days while we were there. A loud band played until 1-2AM in the morning for several nights. We could not sleep. If you have kids and normally go to bed around 11:00PM or earlier, best check with Sikarin about any festivals that may occur during your time there.
Our stay at the Tamarind Lodge was wonderful. It is in an area of Koh Samui where you will really get to experience the local lifestyle without too much tourist overload. There is a great daily market open in the morning within a short walk, and the beach is just as close. Add in the locals with their food carts and small restaurants with excellent food every day and you can't go wrong with the location. If you want more of a tourist experience, head to Fisherman's Village for an evening, but coming back to Tamarind Lodge is the way to go.
The place is huge, and has a deck around 3 sides of the house. There is a grill provided if you'd like to cook outside. The service we were given was some of the best service we've had from Ron and his staff was some of the best we've experienced through Airbnb. The whole island was without power for over 3 days of our stay, but Ron and his crew took care of us well and made sure we were happy and still able to enjoy ourselves. Both beds include mosquito nets just to be sure you have a peaceful nights sleep, there is an indoor and an outdoor shower, a kitchen for cooking...the place has it all. We would definitely recommend staying there.
