“This is a unique landscape right up there with rain forests and coral reefs...The desert is really a model of how we need to live. It uses all of its resources wisely, can sustain itself efficiently and is adaptable.”

Thank you for staying with us!
I came to the United States from Hungary in 1999 “just” to visit a friend for a few months that lived in New Jersey at that time. I was planning to work for a few months, saving enough money to travel to Mexico to fulfill my lifetime longing to see the pyramids and to experience Mayan spirituality there. After that I was planning to go back to Hungary. But soon I fell in love with the freedom and the infinite opportunities that this country offered to its citizens and decided to make it to my new home.
After my son completed his middle school years in New Jersey, the two of us drove across the country and settled down in Santa Monica. I was even more in love with the West Coast and during our trip I loved to experience the Wild Wild West that I had only seen in western movies before.
The SoCal vibe especially resonated with me and increased my curiosity of learning about how to live life more fully on every level and these lead me to start my yoga teacher studies. On this path of becoming a yoga instructor I met with Larry at a meditation retreat and the rest is history.
Yes, it was love at first site and we were married seven months later! What a blessing to find a partner that you can adventure with together! After we established our life in Malibu we decided to create a retreat center in Costa Rica but by divine intervention we ended up going from the jungle of Central America in the heart of the high desert in Joshua Tree.
There are many more stories in between those two destinations that we would be happy to share with you while you’re staying at our soulfully decorated home with objects from our travels from Hungary to Joshua Tree and South America and in between.
Larry Amal Norman:
I was born in Norfolk, Virginia Naval Hospital and my parents soon after moved to Southern California. I grew up on the beaches of the South Bay spending most of my time in the water surfing, skim boarding and bodysurfing.
I think I was born with wanderlust as at 5 years old I had to be escorted to kindergarten due to my constant intentional losing my way to school and going exploring. Traveling has been a passion of mine ever since and I have been fortunate to have been able to experience many countries and cultures as our home reflects.
At age 18 while living on Maui I read Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda and this started me on a quest exploring different forms of spirituality and religions. It is said that "When the student is ready the teacher will come", and She did in the physical form of Mata Amritanandamayai. Her simple message being "Love and Service" answered all my questions. While in Her service I met my lovely wife Gabriella and life's adventures started anew.
Together we manifested our escape plan: bought 5 acres of rainforest in Costa Rica, built a tiny house and planned to move there although after 3 years the universe had a different plan for us and we landed in magical Joshua Tree as your airbnb hosts!
