I have only positive things to say about Abdelatif and Yamina. They were wonderful hosts and everything about my stay was great!
Communication went well before the trip and they promptly responded to my questions. The apartment is clean, in a new, generally quiet and modern building and has lots of light. The bed is comfortable and the bedroom and living room balconies are wonderful spots to just sit and read, or to start/finish your day with a home-cooked breakfast or dinner.
As soon as I arrived, Abdelatif and Yamina took me to a local restaurant, where I was introduced to their friends. I greatly enjoyed my conversations with Yamina, who kindly gave me a tour of the area and joined me by the beach one afternoon. On my last evening, I enjoyed our time together in the kitchen as I washed and cut veggies for the wonderful dinner she cooked for us.
Dar Bouazza is a lovely and laid-back beach town with many international and internationally-minded residents, who seem to just "live and let live". I am happy I picked this town to end a busy 1-week trip to Casablanca and Rabat. Staying there allowed me to be relaxed before going home.
Note for the light sleepers (like myself): someone mentioned dogs barking at night: there are indeed some of those in the area, but I've been told that the municipality and a local association are working on reducing them (with morally acceptable means). After a good daytime walk on the beach and using my foam earplugs, I was able to sleep just fine ;-) In general, being a night owl myself, I would say that going to bed and waking up late is difficult in many Moroccan/African cities, so it's a good idea to adjust your sleeping hours (go to bed and wake up earlier) if you don't want to deal with / complain about street noise, construction noise, etc.
Note for the beach lovers: If the Atlantic ocean is too cold for you or you want the privacy/comfort of a beach club, you can spend the day and rent a chair or "bed" at one of the many beach restaurant/lounges and use their outdoor swimming pools and private beaches (I've been given daily rates of 6-10 USD, sometimes requiring a min. amount of food/drink consumption).
Finally, I recommend staying with this knowledgeable and hospitable local couple to anyone who loves to recharge by the beach and enjoys genuine interactions. I hope to return one day and stay with them again. Merci beaucoup, Yamina et Abdelatif!
