Jan and Kristina's hostel was a good base for our lake District adventures. For the price in the area it is good. We stayed in the 6 bed girls dorm, the beds were comfortable and the location in Kendal was good for day trips. Non of the facilities were new and it would have been good if the small lights above the beds worked.

Lovely relaxed friendly place to be. Great range of breakfast foods provided, with honesty box for your £3 per breakfast. I loved that there was always banana bread on a plate in the kitchen to help onesself to! Terrifically helpful re: my travel arrangements - they researched and printed off a train journey for me! Internet access and phone signal were variable, I had to sit in the dining room or lounge to get it - none in my dorm - but that's the government's fault for not rolling out civilisation as far as Cumbria, NOT the hostel's fault! I had the same thing in a much more expensive Cumbria hotel. Btw there's a brilliant cafe just up the same street on the right called Brew Brothers if you want more of a continental brekkers. THANK YOU Jan and Kristina and Mr Techie Genius on the desk for making my stay a delight!

The bed is comfortable but the arrangement and management for the room is poor. Big kitchen and hosts offer us some free cakes. The shower water is very very small. There is no rubbish bin in the shower room and it's inconvenient for females.

Myself and two friends stayed at Jan and Kristina's hostel for 2 nights over the easter break and we loved our stay there! The rooms were clean and cosy, and we felt right at home. Jan and Kristina were away on holiday when we stayed but Neil, who we saw most, was very friendly and accommodating and even let us try some of his homemade mushroom soup! There is a cosy living room area on the first floor, with a real fire and a nice dinning room where you can relax and have cup of tea even once you have checked out. George the tabby cat was also a lovely addition and loved a wee cuddle!

I am an out going, approachable lady who has lived in the area most of my life. I enjoy travelling the UK as well as the rest of the world and have experienced many countries and their cultures. I am a trained Blue Badge Guide for Cumbria and have exceptional knowledge of Cumbria and the Lake District through which i regularly take guided groups out for tours to share my knowledge and educate people on this beautiful part of the world. I have a love for animals. George is the hostel cat (Ginger George) who lives in the hostel and is very relaxed and loves finding the warm spots. I also have a black Labrador called Masie who is always around me.
Me and my daughter have run the hostel since 2011 when the YHA decided to sell the property. We have a passion for our work and also wish every guest the best experience possible.
